The 2025 session of the Indiana General Assembly began on January 8 and is scheduled to adjourn sine die no later than April 29. This year’s session is a long, budget-focused session, and AIA Indiana is closely tracking multiple bills and issues at the Statehouse. CLICK HERE to view the list of bills currently being monitored by AIA Indiana.
Additionally, Indiana’s new Governor, Mike Braun, has launched his term with a series of executive orders. Of particular interest to AIA Indiana members is Executive Order EO 2025-18 – Professional Licensing Deregulation, which directs state agencies to review and reduce professional licensing requirements where possible. AIA Indiana has faced similar licensing reviews under former Governors Mitch Daniels and Mike Pence. In fact, Governor Pence’s Job Creation Committee once recommended that engineers no longer need to be licensed—a position that was ultimately reversed. CLICK HERE to learn more.
AIA Indiana will remain vigilant in safeguarding the integrity of architectural licensure in the Hoosier state, and you can assist in this effort. Please consider sending a letter to Governor Mike Braun at the following address:

Urge him to prioritize the health, safety, and welfare of Indiana’s built environment by maintaining strong architectural licensing requirements. The primary purpose of licensing architects is to protect the public by ensuring qualified professionals handle the critical responsibilities of design and construction.
As you know, architectural licensure is granted only after candidates meet rigorous requirements, including earning a professional education, completing extensive real-world experience under the supervision of a licensed architect, and passing a comprehensive professional examination.
Architects play an essential role in safeguarding lives, promoting health, and enhancing well-being within the built environment. Weakening licensure requirements would jeopardize these protections and put the public at risk. AIA Indiana strongly opposes any efforts to reduce or eliminate architectural licensing standards.
