Welcome to 2020 - a new year (and decade) full of new opportunities! As we look forward to what the year ahead will bring, we also look back at a great year in 2019 and we say THANK YOU to the members and volunteers who have done and continue to do so much for AIA Kentucky.

We are kicking this year off at a record high of 664 members and our new president, Ed Krebs, AIA and the rest of AIA Kentucky's Board of Directors are excited to represent and serve each one. We hope that you will show them your support as they lead us through another successful year and we hope to see even more of you step up and get involved in the months ahead.

AIA KY | IIDA OHKY Legislative Day
Thursday, February 6, 2020

Join colleagues from AIA Kentucky and IIDA OHKY for our annual Legislative Day at the Kentucky State Capitol where we will advocate for the importance of licensing architects and certifying interior designers, in order to protect the public health, safety and welfare.

Enjoy breakfast and conversation with legislators in the Annex Cafeteria from 8:00 - 9:30 a.m. and afterward, members of our Government Affairs committees will lead attendees through committee meetings and scheduled appointments with your elected representatives. Finally, we will observe the afternoon sessions in the House and Senate chambers.

ICC 500 Storm Shelter Requirements - 6 LU | HSW
February 27, 2020 in Louisville

AIA KY and Jefferson County Public Schools are partnering to bring you a presentation by Corey Schultz, AIA, from Schultz2 in Wichita, Kansas. Schultz, who helped to author the ICC 500 and is helping to write the 2020 updates, will present on the building code requirements for the design and peer review of storm shelters in the state of Kentucky.

2020 Membership - Renew by 1/15!

2020 will be another important year for the architectural profession, in Kentucky and beyond, and it is as important now as ever to renew your membership and to encourage others to join as well.

Holiday spending now have you on a tight budget? A dues installment plan is available through AIA, as well as Associate & Emerging Professional Grants for members of AIA Central Kentucky (due today).

If you have misplaced your renewal invoice, email us and we can provide a copy to you. The 2020 renewal deadline is Wednesday, January 15.

GSA Faculty Opening: Architecture + Design

The Governor's School for the Arts is seeking a faculty member for the summer 2020 Architecture + Design program who has experience developing curriculum, working with young students, and is comfortable in an intense, quickly changing studio environment. The 2020 program will take place June 28 - July 18 on the campus of the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY, with faculty planning taking place on June 27. In December, AIA National inaugurated Jane Frederick, FAIA, as its 96th president. Frederick is the principal at Frederick + Frederick Architects in Beaufort, South Carolina, and has held numerous leadership positions with AIA. View Press Release

The Last Word

We are certainly off to a busy start in 2020 - with convention planning underway, an exciting lineup of educational programs on the calendar and registration open for our annual Legislative Day. While advocacy remains a primary focus for AIA Kentucky, you can see above that we're also striving to provide you with opportunities for professional development on topics that are both interesting and relevant.
Our first two installments are an ICC 500 Storm Shelter workshop on February 27 (6 LU HSW), followed by a comprehensive 2-day Project Management Bootcamp on April 30th and May 1st (13 AIA LU). These are first-rate programs presented in cooperation with established experts on the respective topics.  We hope you'll take advantage of these opportunities and also look for ways to get involved throughout the year.
