June 2020
Architects envision and create a blueprint for better communities and, as part of that vision, the AIA believes in and advocates for the universal respect and human dignity that everyone deserves. People are central to what we do. We need each other and, as outlined by Whitney M. Young in 1968, "we must work to achieve a just, equitable, and inclusive society."
As architects, we have both the privilege and the responsibility to improve the places where we live and work. May we all use our talents and our voices to embrace that precious opportunity.

Tuesday, June 30, 2020
As architecture billings continue a precipitous decline and we anticipate an impending recession, it is important for architects to be equipped with knowledge about payment assurance laws. Unfortunately, many architects do not fully understand their lien rights. Our
FREE webinar, developed by the AIA Small Firm Exchange (SFx), aims to change that!
This course will focus specifically on lien rights for architects who practice in the state of Kentucky and aims to raise awareness of how both Kentucky statutes and AIA contract documents can be leveraged to support the design professional's right to be paid in a timely manner.

We hope to see you there!

FREE Webinar on Mentorship from Afar
Wednesday, June 10 at 1:00 PM
In this webinar, presented by members of AIA's National Associates Committee, you'll learn how to initiate and strengthen the mentorship relationships that will lead you forward, even when casual facetime isn't as easily accessible as it once was.
Hear the stories of how Kendall Nicholson, Timarie Trarbach, and Jessica Parmenter have navigated mentorship in the associate stage of their career and learn a step by step process to finding and strengthening your own mentor relationships from Mia Scharphie.
Remote ARE Proctoring
According to recent communications from NCARB CEO, Michael Armstrong, NCARB is continuing to work on the development of a remote proctoring option for ARE 5.0. This will be one of the first licensure exams to have this option and it requires creation of an infrastructure that involves alternative locations and vendor capacity, plus new challenges for volunteer item writers and paid psychometricians. NCARB is hopeful for a launch sometime in early 2021.

The Last Word
I think many of us are struggling to find words right now... struggling to find peace amidst months of upheaval and unrest. For just as we began to glimpse a light at the end of our isolation, we are faced with another kind of darkness that threatens to further separate our society.
We grieve and protest the injustice that we have been witnessing - across the country and here at home - and we are saddened by the destruction taking place in the cities that we love. But we should also recognize the beauty of the human spirit shining through. Because for every appalling incident of hatred, we see brighter examples of love and compassion that give us hope.
Architects are especially predisposed to hope. They are dreamers who have the innate ability to see beyond what is, to what can be. And they are doers who create plans and improve outcomes. I believe that our members have it in them to make the world a better place and I encourage every one of you to go and do it!
Sincerely,
|
