Summer is nearly upon us and we're looking forward to warmer and drier weather! Our AIA KY Golf Outing was a great success last month and we're starting to see many out-of-office replies as our members take some much needed time off!
Many Kentucky members are headed to San Diego next week for the AIA '26 Conference on Architecture & Design. If you're attending the conference, be sure to register for the AIA KY|UK CoD Alumni Reception held on Wednesday, June 10.
In the birthplace of California and a major hub for the United States Navy, members will network, share knowledge, gain exposure, and find multidisciplinary solutions to today’s most pressing issues… but not to worry if you are sitting this one out. There are numerous continuing education opportunities for you right here at home!
Participate in our summer Building Code Webinars on 6/17 & 6/18 to earn 6.0 LU | HSW as we review the Significant IBC Updates from 2015 to 2024. Plus, the AIA Kentucky "Bluegrass Built" Covention will be held a the Speed Art Museum in Louisville on 9/22, where you can earn up to 6.5 LU | HSW. The registration website will open next month, so save the date!
Finally, you can also take the invaluable plunge into an AIA leadership role on our AIA KY Board of Directors or apply to become a member of the prestigious AIA KY - Christopher Kelley Leadership Development Program. These experiences offer the professional and personal growth that you’re seeking, so don’t let them pass you by!

2026 AIA Kentucky Board Nominations
AIA Kentucky is seeking members interested in leadership positions on our board of directors. The position of Secretary for 2026 will be open, with preference given to a Northern Kentucky section member to maintain geographic balance on the Executive Committee. This is a one-year term that traditionally leads to ongoing service in subsequent years as Treasurer, President-Elect and then President of AIA Kentucky.
We are also seeking an Associate Director to serve a two-year term on the board, and represent AIA KEntucky on the National Associates Committee.
Members interested should submit a letter of interest to Nominating Committee Chair, Melinda Joseph-Dezarn, AIA no later than Friday, July 25. Questions?

Kentucky Architect License Renewals
The Kentucky 2026 Architect renewal period is now open for both practicing and Emeritus Architects. As a reminder, any renewals after June 30, 2026 will incur late fees. Renew online at the Kentucky Board of Architects website.
A reminder to those renewing that you must also certify having completed twelve (12) continuing education hours (all HSW) during the period beginning January 1 and ending December 31 of 2025. Visit the BOA website for additional information & FAQs.

AIA Pushes for Legislative Fix to Federal Student Loan Caps:
Following the Department of Education’s final rule excluding M.Arch and D.Arch degrees from the federal definition of a professional degree, AIA is now focused on a legislative solution and has endorsed three federal bills aimed at restoring access to financial aid and recognizing architecture as a professional degree pathway:
- H.R. 6574 – Loan Equity for Advanced Professionals Act
- H.R. 6718 – Professional Student Degree Act
- H.R. 6677 – Professional Degree Access Restoration Act

Architects & Contractors Unite to Improve Collaboration and Project Outcomes: on May 27, the Associated General Contractors of America and AIA released a joint framework aimed at strengthening teamwork between architects and contractors.
