March 2020

The luck of the Irish? Just before St. Patty's Day, and in the midst of Women's History Month, Irish architects Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara (Grafton Architects) were announced as the 2020 Pritzker Prize Laureates - known internationally as architecture's highest honor!

Many prized traditions, like daylight savings time and NCAA Madness, come along with the month of March. Meanwhile, AIA Kentucky is in the midst of our own madness - with preparations for upcoming seminars, our member directory, annual awards programs and a fantastic fall convention!

See the articles below for details on all of these opportunities and, of course, don't forget to renew your AIA membership by March 31 so you won't miss out on any of them!

Focus on QBS

On Tuesday of this week, AIA Kentucky was proud to support and attend SMPS Kentucky's program on Model Procurement and Qualifications Based Selection (QBS) in Kentucky's A/E/C Industry.

Eric Zabilka, AIA participated in a panel discussion along with members from the Kentucky Engineering Center, the Transportation Cabinet and the Kentucky Association of Counties and, together, the group presented some compelling evidence about the merits of QBS for professional services. It was a very successful program and a fantastic way to gain momentum around this important conversation in our industry!

Interested? Contact Kelly Ives, AIA for more information on Kentucky's QBS Coalition.

The Last Word

It was such a pleasure to see so many of you at our storm shelter workshop In Louisville last week - and what a great presentation that was! We were fortunate to host such an expert on the subject matter and are thrilled to offer another extremely high-caliber program next month.

If your goal is to improve your capability and effectiveness as a project manager, I hope you'll consider attending our 2-day PSMJ Project Management Bootcamp on April 30 and May 1 in Lexington. This is a high-level instructional program designed specifically for project managers in architecture/engineer/construction. Yes, it's priced higher than our regular CE programming, but trust that the program's proven value will be a worthy investment. The opportunity to attend, at a discounted rate, right here in Kentucky is a rare opportunity. So check it out at aiaky.org/PSMJ2020 and get an early bird discount if you register before March 16. Can't wait to see you there!

Cheers!
