Building Thermal Envelope

(1 LU/HSW)

The minimum standards for energy use of our new and renovated buildings is tightly defined in our building codes and often misunderstood and misapplied. This presentation will demystify the requirements for designing and constructing the thermal control of the exterior building enclosure, specifically in identifying and selecting one of many compliance paths, defining continuous insulation and understanding the impact of thermal bridging. Our goal is to provide a firm understanding of how to select the best envelope code design approach for a project and understand the nuances of continuous insulation.

4th quarter Espresso Yourself series entitled, “DON’T FORGET THE SMALL STUFF: The Often Overlooked Strategy to Rapidly Level Up Your Career,” presented by Travis Krimmel, AIA of SS&A Design Collective in Montgomery, AL.

Travis Krimmel is an Associate and an Architect at SS&A Design Collective in Auburn, Alabama. He attended Auburn University from 2007-2012 and 2013-2014, graduating in 2014 with a bachelor’s in architecture. During 2012, Travis joined the Alabama Army National Guard and attended Army Basic Training. Travis became a Commissioned Officer in 2014 after completing Officer Candidate School from 2013-2014.

Description: Moving up in a career can be hard and the path can seem hard to navigate. Through a combination of my Military and Architectural experiences, I have found that it is not always the big things, but the small stuff can rapidly accelerate massive career progress. The small stuff, the details, and bite-sized tasks you do on a regular basis may sometimes seem insignificant, but without them, the mission quickly derails, and you can quickly plateau in your career. It is through the combination of small things, done consistently, over time where big moves can be accomplished. Learn how.
