Special Meeting Announcement:
All AIA Michigan members are invited to attend a special meeting of the full membership to discuss the future of the Beaubien House.

The meeting will be held on November 17th at 6:00 pm, at
Weber's Restaurant and Boutique Hotel
3050 Jackson Rd, Ann Arbor

The AIA Michigan Board of Directors has been discussing the future of our headquarters over the course of the last year.  Many of you participated in a survey last spring on the topic, and we appreciate your feedback. You should be aware from a general announcement that was sent to the full membership on July 9th that on July 8th the Board voted unanimously to put Beaubien House on the market.

A purchase agreement has been received for the property, and the AIA Michigan Board of Directors unanimously voted to accept the purchase offer on September 23rd, with one dissenting opinion submitted subsequently on October 16th.  However, the purchase agreement has not been signed.

On October 8th the Board received a petition signed electronically by 405 members that a special meeting be called to discuss this topic.  That petition read as follows:

"We, the members of AIA Michigan, do hereby petition the Board of Directors to call a special meeting of the membership to determine the future for AIA Michigan's Beaubien House."

As per our bylaws, in response to such a request the Secretary is charged with giving notice to the full membership not less than (30) days before the date fixed for a special meeting, so this message serves as that announcement.

We hope that you will take the time to participate in this special meeting.

Will Wittig, AIA
AIA Michigan Board of Directors, Secretary
Executive Director's Message:
Cathy Headshot
I can't believe that it is already November! This year is flying by and there is still a lot happening before the end of the year. Last week I traveled to California to the AIA Large States meeting. There was an update from NCARB and many changes to IDP. Click HERE for the NCARB homepage. We continue to make progress on repositioning at all levels of the AIA. It's an exciting time to be involved in the AIA!

My last update is an exciting one - you may now register for the AIA National Convention hotel room, (May 14-16) in Atlanta using the AIA Michigan room block! The AIA Michigan hotel choice for the Convention is the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. This is also the AIA National Hotel this year. Click HERE for step by step room block information.  Click HERE for the 2015 Convention Website.

Some events to look forward to:

The Markitect Seminar scheduled for November 6th with AIAMI and SMPS is currently full with a wait list and will not be accepting any others on the wait list. However, due to popular demand we will keep this list and look into repeating this seminar at a later date.

The next ARE Seminar is scheduled for November 8, 2014 from 8:30a.m to 4:30p.m. We will be discussing Mechanical and Electrical Systems. Breakfast and Lunch is included in the cost.

Lastly, please remember that December 11, 2014 is the AIA Michigan Board Transition Meeting followed by the Holiday Open House from 4:00p.m. to 7:00p.m.  Please mark your calendars for this event!

I would love to hear your ideas about our programs and events, so please contact me anytime and I hope to see you at an AIA Michigan event this month!

AIAMI / MAF Speakers Bureau: Call for Presentations
AIA Michigan and the MAF want to get the word out about the benefits architects provide to their communities. To accomplish this we are gathering passionate speakers to create the Speakers Bureau which, in conjunction with our local chapters, will bring exciting, informative presentations to organizations around the state. This is a great opportunity for our members to raise awareness about their firm's work and their passion while advocating for the architectural profession.

Applications are being accepted. Submit your application to aiami@aiami.com with a subject line that includes " Speakers Bureau" to be considered. If you are a member in good standing and would like to join the Speakers Bureau, please review the Call for Presentations and the Speaker Questionnaire.

Please visit the Speakers Bureau webpage and if you have any questions, contact the Speakers Bureau Task Force:
