EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR UPDATE - COVID-19
|
Dear Members and AIA Michigan Community:
Last week we made the difficult decision to cancel upcoming events for March 2020.
The Health Facilities Conference, in conjunction with the State of Michigan on March 19-20, 2020 has been cancelled. The AESLC Legislative day scheduled for March 17, 2020 has been cancelled and rescheduled for June 2nd.
In making this decision we have taken guidance from the latest information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO), as well as recent statements the Governor of the State of Michigan which recommends we “Cancel or postpone large gatherings, conferences, and sporting events (e.g., greater than 100 people in a shared space)”
https://www.michigan.gov/coronavirus
National AIA has also cancelled the
Conference on Architecture A’20
. They have issued a statement about refunds. If you reserved a room through AIA Michigan, your room has been cancelled. They have set up a
FAQ
on their website to answer your questions.
In the interest of the health and safety of our staff, visitors, and members, The AIAMI office will remain open remotely for the next two weeks. The main phone will be transferred to cell phones. If you need documents, we will have them shipped to you. In person pick-up will be unavailable. Throughout March and into April, committee, board and task force meetings will continue as planned but instead of in person they will be virtual using WebEx, teleconferencing and screen sharing which will be sent to committees ahead of meetings. We thank you for your patience while we transition to virtual meetings for the next couple of weeks. Please check our website
www.aiami.com
and calendar of events for additional updates.
As the impact of the coronavirus evolves, AIA Michigan will keep our members updated. If you have any concerns, please call or email
aiami@aiami.com
. We hope you are staying healthy and safe during this difficult time.
Cathy Mosley, Hon. Aff. AIAMI

Managing the Risks of Model Sharing.
Transmitting reliable building information through digital models is a rapidly emerging trend. There are significant risks - models can convey information that the author does not intend. Join a free webinar on March 20 to hear from industry experts on how to safely and confidently provide models that others can trust.

Best Practice: Employee Benefits.
Employee benefits are often defined as compensation paid by an employer to an employee over and above regular salary and wages. Employee benefits come in many shapes and sizes and are an integral part of an overall compensation package offered to employees. Employee benefits are essential in keeping current employees happy and have become an important ingredient to attracting new and highly skilled employees to a firm.
