Hello Everyone

We are in the middle of summer! For many of us AIA Michigan’s Mid-Summer conference is the symbolic middle, the half-way point between the 4th of July and Labor Day, and that is only a week away. Dare I say it, but the days have been getting shorter for over a month now. I hope some of you have been taking the time for a good break or vacation or have one planned. There have been numerous articles and studies written on the benefits of vacations. A 2017 Expedia study revealed the following.

The benefits of vacation are widespread, with Americans returning from vacation happier (96 percent), better rested (93 percent), less stressed (94 percent), in better health (93 percent) and closer to their partner or family (90 percent). Read More

Happy August to all of our Michigan AIA Associate Members!

First, I hope that everyone finds themselves happy, safe and healthy as we move into August. I am excited to head off towards AIAMI’s Mid-Summer Conference in Mackinac this weekend. After months of us all being quarantined, this is an opportunity to come together to enjoy the island and one-another as we deepen our knowledge and network professionally – in a socially distanced manner of course. This weekend we will attend an array of seminars ranging in topic from computational design to the risk and liabilities of IT in the workplace. I look forward to sharing more about this important and informative weekend following my return.  Read More
The Bureau of Professional Licensing (BPL) within the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) is moving to a new online licensing and regulatory database for health and occupational professions, called Michigan Professional Licensing User System (MiPLUS).

Our tentative launch date for this Phase 3a of the new system is August 25, 2020. This phase involves the 13 professions including: Acupuncture, Architects, Audiology, Athletic Trainers, Marriage and Family Therapists, Massage Therapists, Nursing Home Administrators, Professional Engineers Professional Surveyors, Psychology, Real Estate, Sanitarians and Speech Language Pathology.

In order to allow time for migration of current licensing records into the new system, our office will be unable to process license applications, license renewals, or changes to licenses between August 3, 2020 and August 25, 2020, for these professions only. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

This Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document provides answers to questions regarding the conversion to the new system. If you have additional questions or concerns regarding the transition, please do not hesitate to contact us at 517-241-0199 or email BPLHELP@michigan.gov.

One critical item to note is please do not attempt to create or register for a MiPLUS account until after August 25, 2020. Doing so will negatively impact your ability to interact with the system as it will require that you contact our office to correct your account.
As we get closer to the launch date, we will be posting additional information specific to your profession on our MiPLUS website (www.michigan.gov/miplus). In the mean time if you wish to familiarize yourself with the new system you can review the information and videos available here.

Again, thank you for your cooperation as we work together to make Michigan’s system of professional licensing a model for other states.
