Happy Monday!

Everyone had a wonderful time at Design Retreat again this year and the program went very well thanks to our awesome presenters, speaker and our generous sponsors. We had a record attendance at over 150. One of the highlights of the retreat was hearing from Jenenne Whitfield, Executive Director for 21 years of the Heidelberg Project in Detroit.  Jenenne ended the retreat with a standing ovation for her inspirational words.  If you would like to learn more about the Heidelberg Project, volunteer or donate please check out the website at http://www.heidelberg.org Thank you all who attended and we look forward to next year's retreat.  I have included a few photos from this years event below:

MHPN 20th Annual Fall Benefit

The Michigan Historic Preservation Network's 20th Annual Fall Benefit will be held Saturday, October 11, 2014. Members and friends of the Michigan Historic Preservation Network (MHPN) have gotten together every fall for twenty years and the MHPN always chooses a noteworthy historic venue as the evening's backdrop.  This year's venue is the Tibbits Opera House in Coldwater, a building with a story of stunning reclamation.  Detroit architect Mortimer Smith designed the exquisite Second Empire faade of the Tibbits Opera House built in 1882.  The following decades brought changes and neglect but a recent restoration effort has restored the opera house to its original glory and it must be seen to be believed!

MHPN Tibbits Opera House

The public is invited to the MHPN's 20th Annual Fall Benefit which includes strolling dinner fare and dessert, a hosted beer and wine bar, opera house tours, silent and live auctions, and more.  RSVP by Friday, October 3, at 6:00 PM. For more information, go to the visit the MHPN website, call 517-371-8080, or e-mail admin@mhpn.org. The website also includes information on the evening's commuter bus.
