Happy Monday!

The Mid Summer Conference was a success again this year and I would like to thank our generous sponsors and our enthusiastic participants for making this year's experience unforgettable! I hope everyone who attended enjoyed their "reunion" activities; I heard discussion from some groups who want to make it an annual affair! I will post photos from this event in the Newsletter, so keep an eye out for that later this month.

If you didn't attend the conference, do not worry, we have several other great AIA Michigan events coming in the next few months! A few of the upcoming events include:

Registration is closing soon for the Green Health Summit and space is limited so please register as soon as possible.

Have you registered for the Tigers Tailgate on September 12th? Registration is open and the flyer is below for more information. Join us for a delicious tailgate feast at the DAC followed by a great game against the Cleveland Indians!

The "Markitect" event will be held on November 6th. We have teamed up with the Society for Marketing Professional Services to help our member firms advance their companies. If you work at a big firm and don't know what the marketing staff does or if you work at a small firm and do the marketing yourself, there will be valuable insight for everyone. Check out our website for more information and to register!

Have a great week and remember to contact me anytime with your ideas or if you would like to join a committee!

MHPN 20th Annual Fall Benefit

The Michigan Historic Preservation Network's 20th Annual Fall Benefit will be held Saturday, October 11, 2014. Members and friends of the Michigan Historic Preservation Network (MHPN) have gotten together every fall for twenty years and the MHPN always chooses a noteworthy historic venue as the evening's backdrop.  This year's venue is the Tibbits Opera House in Coldwater, a building with a story of stunning reclamation.  Detroit architect Mortimer Smith designed the exquisite Second Empire faade of the Tibbits Opera House built in 1882.  The following decades brought changes and neglect but a recent restoration effort has restored the opera house to its original glory and it must be seen to be believed!

MHPN Tibbits Opera House

The public is invited to the MHPN's 20th Annual Fall Benefit which includes strolling dinner fare and dessert, a hosted beer and wine bar, opera house tours, silent and live auctions, and more.  RSVP by Friday, October 3, at 6:00 PM. For more information, go to the visit the MHPN website, call 517-371-8080, or e-mail [email protected]. The website also includes information on the evening's commuter bus.

AIAMI/MAF Speakers Bureau: Call for Presentations
AIA Michigan and the MAF want to get the word out about the benefits architects provide to their communities. To accomplish this we are gathering passionate speakers to create the Speakers Bureau which, in conjunction with our local chapters, will bring exciting, informative presentations to organizations around the state. This is a great opportunity for our members to raise awareness about their firm's work and their passion while advocating for the architectural profession.

Applications are being accepted until October 31, 2014 for the 2015 program. If you are a member in good standing and would like to join the Speakers Bureau, please review the Call for Presentations and the Speaker Questionnaire

Please visit the Speakers Bureau webpage and if you have any questions, contact the Speakers Bureau Task Force:
