Happy Monday!

In addition the Beaubien House happenings, we have other exciting news to report. First, Ned Apigian, an active member of our Government Affairs Committee, has been endorsed by the Detroit News as the candidate for District 11. Read the announcement here

I am also excited to announce that Tyree Guyton, the 2014 Korab Award winner and founder of the Heidelberg Project, will speak at the Design Retreat! His work has received national and international acclaim and we know he will inspire us to drive the design evolution occurring in our state. Guyton will be accompanied by Jenenne Whitfield, the Executive Director of the Heidelberg Project, and the duo will also update us on their journey to starting a foundation and their upcoming book.

If you missed the deadline to register for the Mid Summer Conference, we still have spots available, but the Grand Hotel has very few rooms left! Head to our website and print the registration forms ASAP if you are thinking about attending this popular program.

Registration is currently open for the Green Health Summit and space is limited so please register as soon as possible.

Have you registered for the Tigers Tailgate on September 12th? Registration is open and the flyer is below for more information. Join us for a delicious tailgate feast at the DAC followed by a great game against the Cleveland Indians!

Have a great week and remember to contact me anytime with your ideas or if you would like to join a committee!

Taubman College: Call for Collaborators
Taubman College is seeking interested and forward-thinking architectural practices to collaboratively explore new research trajectories in digital fabrication and robotics. We offer a world class FABLAB facility, leading edge faculty and highly motivated and engaged students. Our goal is to leverage these tools and associated knowledge to bridge academic with practice and industry interests from the region. The research group will develop an integrative course that will address emerging questions from practice and better prepare students to operate in a rich and complex professional environment.

Interested professionals should contact Karl Daubmann, AIA (kmdaub@umich.edu) for more information and to be informed of upcoming meetings to discuss the development of this group.

AAO's New Symposium Launches in Michigan!
ADEN symposium AAO
The Association of Architecture Organizations (AAO) is bringing a new event, the A+DEN Symposium, to Michigan! This symposium will be held at the Cranbrook Art Museum July 31-August 2nd and AIA Michigan members are invited to register.

The AAO is piloting a special gathering devoted exclusively to K-12 architecture and design educators. This inaugural event offers 20+ hours of networking and professional development, including live observations of design camps (grades 3-12), group workshops, one-on-one meet-ups and small group discussions, special receptions, and tours of nearby architectural sites and design-related education facilities.

For all the details, please visit the A+DEN webpage here.

AIAMI/MAF Speakers Bureau: Call for Presentations
AIA Michigan and the MAF want to get the word out about the benefits architects provide to their communities. To accomplish this we are gathering passionate speakers to create the Speakers Bureau which, in conjunction with our local chapters, will bring exciting, informative presentations to organizations around the state. This is a great opportunity for our members to raise awareness about their firm's work and their passion while advocating for the architectural profession.

Applications are being accepted until October 31, 2014 for the 2015 program. If you are a member in good standing and would like to join the Speakers Bureau, please review the Call for Presentations and the Speaker Questionnaire

Please visit the Speakers Bureau webpage and if you have any questions, contact the Speakers Bureau Task Force:
