2030 Challenge Survey
This survey is distributed on behalf of an AIA National special Emerging Professional group. Please take a moment to read about the survey and participate:

As the 2030 Challenge deadline approaches, people are beginning to question if global carbon-neutrality is a feasible reality. But the question should not be whether we can build one carbon-neutral building, as many individual buildings have reached this goal, but rather the question should be whether we will build a carbon-neutral community.

As emerging professionals asking these questions, we have developed a survey aimed to uncover gaps in knowledge and practice around sustainable design techniques pertaining to the built environment. It has been developed as a launching point to begin a discussion about what may or may not be holding us back from carbon-neutrality.

The survey will take 10-15 minutes to complete, and will contribute to a base of knowledge for further research studies. The results will be presented at various national conferences this year. Please take the time to fill out the survey, as it will help better our architectural practice as a whole.

AIA Huron Valley: "50 Years, 50 Buildings, 50 Ideas for the Future"
HURON VALLEY TURNS 50!
Greetings for the New Year! 2014 is a significant year for the AIA Huron Valley Chapter as we commemorate 50 Years since the formation of our Chapter in December 1964. Our anniversary celebration will focus on the theme "50 Years, 50 Buildings, 50 Ideas for the Future". There will be several events throughout the year centered around this theme, but the Guide to Ann Arbor Architecture deadline is fast approaching!

For the "50 Buildings" portion of our year's theme, we will be expanding our existing "Guide to Ann Arbor Architecture" to include 50 significant buildings from the Huron Valley Region, and distributing this entire collection in a medium fit for 2014: a geo-located mobile app! Currently, our existing brochure includes 35 notable architectural works, so we're looking for an additional 15 submissions of significant/influential Architectural works, built within the Huron Valley Region (Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston, Monroe and Washtenaw Counties).

If you know of a building that deserves to be included, please submit the information noted below by 5 pm on February 21 via email [email protected]. All submissions will be considered for inclusion, and 15 will be selected for publication this year. As there are likely to be an excess of 15 submissions worthy of inclusion, we are also considering making this app a continually updated resource, that is, additional works of architecture can be added in future years through a similar vetting process.

Thank you for your participation and we look forward to receiving your submissions.
CAM: Call for Entries: Special Issue 2014
The Construction Association of Michigan (CAM) has announced a Call for Entries for this year's Special Issue of their monthly publication. Winning projects will be featured in the Special Issue and will also receive a commemorative plaque at the CAM Awards show, held annual during their tradeshow in February. The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 7th; click here for the Call for Entries criteria and instructions.
AIA + 2030 Professional Series

The AIA+2030 Professional Series began Sept 26, 2013 and continues through 2014. This series helps design professionals create buildings that meet the ambitious energy efficiency goals of the 2030 Challenge. Ten, 4-hour sessions offer strategies to reach 60% reduction in fossil fuel greenhouse gas emissions, giving design professionals the knowledge and leverage to create next-generation, super-efficient buildings and provide firms with the skills that will set them apart in the marketplace.

AIA Huron Valley has arranged for this year's AIA +2030 sessions to be held at Henry Ford Community College, Dearborn. Please view the full description and registration information here.
