Good Afternoon!
Congratulations to
Irvin Poke, AIA, director of the State of Michigan's Bureau of Construction Codes (BCC) on his upcoming retirement. In 2007, Irv received the prestigious AIA Michigan President's Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution and service to the profession of architecture. Irv has been a long-standing member of the International Code Council (ICC)
,
and BOCA International. He has served on the ICC Code Development committees for International Performance Building Code, the International Building Code-General in 2002, and 2003-2004 code cycles. He also served on the BOCA Education and Training Committee and the Structural Loads Committee. In 1996, Irv was appointed to the ICC Performance Code Committee representing BOCA
a
nd the state of Michigan. He chaired the subcommittee responsible for writing draft sections for Egress, Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, and Interior Environment. He is also a technical training instructor for state and local government code officials. Irv's accomplishments are too many to list here!

Weekly Highlights
AIA Flint Scholarship - Application must be postmarked by May 31, 2016
The American Institute of Architects- Flint Chapter is pleased to announce it has established a scholarship for graduating high school seniors pursuing an education and career in architecture, as well as for continuing college students enrolled in an architecture program.
The AIA Flint Architecture Scholarship Fund was established to encourage and assist students graduating from high schools in the Flint Chapter region (Genesee, Shiawassee, and Lapeer Counties) and existing college students to pursue a professional degree in architecture at a college or university with a NAAB accredited architecture program, or an associate degree in architectural technology. The fund is administered by the AIA Flint Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. (read more)

Placemaking Guidebook
The MSU Land Policy Institute (LPI) is pleased to announce the availability of the new Placemaking Guidebook titled, Placemaking as an Economic Development Tool. The LPI is releasing the guidebook to Sense of Place Council members first (limited special release). It is free to AIA Michigan members until December 31, 2016. AIA Michigan(AIAMI), is highlighted in the guidebook on page 4-31.
AIA MI members only - The guidebook is being made available only in an electronic (PDF) format. The LPI is using a "Dropbox-like" service called FileDepot to transmit a single PDF file to users after completing the "Limited Use Agreement (LUA)". You will not have to register or create an account in FileDepot to access the files. You will access the free download by completing the LUA and returning it directly to LPI. download here:
