Obituary
Lansing - It is with great sadness that the family of Morris "Moe" Stein announces his passing on August 4, 2018. Born on May 13, 1931 to Rhea (Davidson) Stein and Harvey Stein, Moe grew up with his two brothers and one sister in Alma and St. Louis Michigan. A veteran of the
Korean War, he attended Michigan State University after completing his tour of duty, graduating with a degree in structural engineering and establishing a life long support for the MSU Spartans. Moe began his career at Warren Holmes in Lansing, before starting his own firm, Frank and Stein Associates, with Richard Frank, where they worked on the restoration of Colonial Michilimackinac and Fort Mackinac in the 1960's. Later he started Stein & Associates Architects & Engineers, earning his architectural license in the early 1970's. Moe served on the board of numerous companies, including Builder's Redi-Mix, was a member of the Lansing Lion's Club, and generously donated his time and design skills to the Boy Scouts of America Northwoods Scouts Reservation and Potter Park Zoo Aviary.

Moe's was a life well lived, filled with adventure and his passions for travel, music, the theater, and a good novel. Together with his wife, Marilyn, of 63 years, they visited over 55 countries on every continent but Antarctica, including many fun-filled family reunions. In his retirement, from set design for community theaters in Surprise, Arizona, and Indio, California, where he was most recently nominated for Best Set Design by the Desert Theater League, to designing and building custom art installations for private homes in Palm Desert, Moe found a way to combine his love for architecture and art. He attributed his longevity to having a great family, a sense of humor, and waking up every morning with a project. This held true right up until the day he passed away.

Moe will forever be beloved by his four children and their families, Nancy (Kris) Knight of San Rafael, California; Janet ( David) Donohue of Happy Valley, Oregon; Gordon (Diane) Stein of Indio, California; and Robert (Christy) Stein of Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan; 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; brother David (Marilyn) Stein of Bay City, Michigan and many friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Marilyn Stein, and daughter, Diane Gladstein. The family would like to thank the wonderful doctors and staff in Portland, Oregon at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, Seasons Hospice, and HomeWell Senior Care for their skilled care and compassion. A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, October 20, at 3:00PM at the Santa Rosa Club House, Sun City Shadow Hills, Indio, California.
