Practice Advisory: Leading Vulnerable & Complex Projects

All projects require management of one kind or another. If they are not managed well even the smallest and simplest of projects can become troublesome, not turn a profit, turn into a nightmare, or become out of control if not managed properly.

Presidential Citation – Mark Steppan, AIA

AIA California President, Debra Gerod, FAIA, has awarded Mark Steppan, AIA, CSI, NCARB, with a Presidential Citation Award for his continuous volunteer leadership of the AIA East Bay Chapter.

Practical Considerations: Getting Paid

Two scenarios occur too often on projects with respect to payment of fees. The first is when the Owner simply withholds fees as an offset against claims. The second occurs with respect to final payment after the Architect has lost all leverage to get paid short of filing a lawsuit or an arbitration claim against the Owner.

In Remembrance: David Cook Maglaty Obituary

David Cook Maglaty, FAIA, 70, died at home with his family by his side in Piedmont, CA on October 16, 2020. He spent the last year of his life with family and friends, biking, walking and visiting in between treatments for prostate cancer.
