Committee Highlight: EDI Committee 

This month we are highlighting our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee. The EDI Committee was formed to address iniquities in our profession at a local scale. This growing committee is comprised of ambitious members motivated to move beyond discussion and to effect action items for change. The committee welcomes new members. Members do not have to be AIA members – all interested parties are welcome to participate. Current plans focus on producing an autumn 2023 roundtable webinar for high school guidance counselors to help them identify and encourage potential architecture students to pursue the profession.

AIA Rochester Putting Competition

Design a Mini Golf Hole!

It's time to reboot the AIA Rochester Golf Tournament Putting Contest! We are turning the putting green into a mini golf course and want you to help us! Register your team to design & build a temporary mini golf hole.

Submit your teams design by May 15th. All submissions will go to the jury and four designs will go on to build their mini golf hole (teams will be reimbursed up to $250 for materials) and $500 will be awarded to the grand winning team. Register by May 12!

2023 Social Media Initiative

AIA Rochester is featuring projects done by local architect members/firms and we hope to hear from you!

Each firm can submit up to 5 projects. All we need is:

2-3 photos of your project (including one detailed photo of a specific aspect), a short description of the project and the architect and photographer names. The deadline for the next submission is May 30th and will be featured in June/July!. Email submissions to Linda Hewitt. We look forward to hearing from you!.

Swinging Fore Scholarships Golf Tournament

Sponsorships and Golf Foursomes are selling out! Don't miss your chance to support our 2023 Golf Tournament!. Proceeds to benefit AIA Rochester Scholarships and educational programming. $20,000 was award to students from last year's efforts!

The event will take place at Ravenwood Golf Club on Tuesday, September 12th and sponsorships and foursomes are already beginning to fill up! Our tournament has been sold out in previous years, so don't wait to register.

AIA Blueprint for Better

The Community Disaster Resilience Zones Act creates and designates resilience zones which identify disadvantage communities that are most at-risk for natural hazards. Communities in the zones will have access to financial, technical, and planning support.  

AIA advocated for the law, which President Biden signed late last year. This spring, architects and mayors have the chance to weigh-in on the designated regions. Learn about the resources for your community and hear from architect Joyce Owens, FAIA, whose projects have put resilience design to the test.

Your partnership allows us to better support our members through opportunities for professional advancement, community involvement, and promoting design excellence in the built environment. Partnerships are open to architects, engineers, planners, landscape architects, artists, and those in government, education, journalism, manufacturing industry, and other fields allied to architecture. Partnerships are based on a calendar year from January - December.
