Tours at Four - Christ Church

Thursday, October 13th @ 4PM

Christ Church, located at the southwest corner of East Avenue and Broadway, was designed by nationally renowned architect, Robert Gibson, and constructed as a basilica-form church of rock-faced locally quarried red Albion sandstone (1883 - 1894). The Church is architecturally significant as a largely intact example of late-nineteenth century Gothic Revival style ecclesiastical building with exterior masonry embellished with flying buttresses supporting a high clerestory wall, a polygonal apse at the east end, and a massive bell tower with pinnacles and a stair turret on its northwest corner. Not only a prominent landmark in Rochester, the site is individually listed on the National and State Registers of Historic Places (NR/SR) as well as part of the Eastman Historic District (NR/SR).   REGISTER HERE!
