Join the Committee on the Environment for COTE Coffee!
Announcing the inaugural AIACOC Committee On The Environment COTE Coffee
Join in on a fun brainstorming session: We'll outline a Central Oklahoma adaptation of AIA's Framework for Design Excellence, mirroring the "If you can do just one thing" sections. What is the purpose of doing this? Glad you asked! This event launches an AIACOC COTE outreach project that positions AIACOC Architects as experts in resilience, sustainability and community building. More details over coffee!
This will be a casual event where participation in the discussion is encouraged. So swing by on your way to the office - light snacks and lots of really good [regular] coffee will be on hand, or bring your own if you prefer - but do sign up, as space limits us to 20 participants.
The event will take place at höffnerdesignstudio, The SLIVR Building, 718 West Sheridan, OKC, OK 73102; Tuesday, June 29th, 8AM - 9AM.
Experience Architecture Volunteers Needed
This program is open to Oklahoma High School students who will be entering their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year during the 2021- 2022 school year.

We are currently looking for Mentors for the program. The Experience Architecture Committee will be "teaching" the programs each day but we'll need mentors to mentor the students as they work on their project. Time commitment is an hour each morning and an hour each afternoon for the week of the program. We will need two mentors per group. If you're interested, please email Melissa at
Virtual Lunch & Learn
Incorporating the Forgotten Thermal Benefits of Brick
Tuesday, July 20, 2021
12:00 - 1:00 p.m.
via Zoom

While frequently chosen for aesthetics and durability, clay brick is not often considered when energy efficiency is a primary concern, even though it historically played a significant role in occupant comfort before widespread use of HVAC systems. This course discusses the basics of heat transfer, relevant energy code provisions for walls, and how current research by the National Brick Research Center demonstrates the role that brick veneer can play in meeting or exceeding energy requirements in modern wall assemblies.
Attendees will earn 1 hour of HSW credit.

A'21: How can your firm transcend the industry’s biggest challenges?
During Day 1 of AIA National's virtual 2021 Conference on Architecture, the leaders of four breakout firms shared their solutions.

The profession of architecture is at an inflection point. Many firms, spurred by urgent conversations about racial equity and the growing threat of climate change, as well as the Covid-19 pandemic’s shakeup of our traditional work environments, are being challenged to apply strategic solutions to several crucial issues at once. How can firms go about elevating their profile under these conditions, as well as their bottom line?

Brainstorming solutions is a challenge in and of itself, especially when it comes to making sure that everyone’s input is equally valued. Four industry professionals discussed this, and other challenges facing their firms and the profession, during “Transforming the Business of Design,” a keynote panel held on Day 1 of AIA’s 2021 Conference on Architecture and moderated by 99% Invisible podcast host Roman Mars.
