AIA Luncheon Next Week!  Register Today!
Join us for the August AIA Luncheon set to take place on Thursday, August 1st at 11:30 a.m. at OSU-OKC in the Student Center on the 3rd Floor.  Our program will be Oklahoma City's Innovation District: An Emerging District.  Our featured speaker will be Katy Boren, President and CEO of Oklahoma City's Innovation District.

As president and CEO of Oklahoma City's Innovation District, Katy Boren spearheads the creation and development of the emerging district and is focused on creating a vibrant, fully-integrated community where people can live, work and play. Her goal is to develop collaboration between Oklahoma's diverse sectors - health, energy, aerospace, tech, art and others - to foster new opportunities for entrepreneurship and innovation.

After earning her bachelor's degree in mass communication from the University of Denver, Boren pursued a law degree at the University of Oklahoma. After graduating, she served a one-year courtship for the Arizona Superior Court before returning to Oklahoma. Boren has practiced oil and gas litigation, served as the vice president of regulatory affairs for Cox Communications for the eastern half of the country, owned her own law firm and spent time as the chief of the Utilities Regulation Unit for the Oklahoma Attorney General's office.

The deadline to register for the AIA August Luncheon is Friday, July 26, 2019.  AIA Central Oklahoma Members attend free and nonmembers / guests are $25.

Chit Chat Call for Presenters
The AIA Central Oklahoma September 12th Luncheon is the annual CHIT CHAT (20 slides | 20 seconds) luncheon and we are now taking nominations for presenters.  If you are interested in presenting, please email to  aiacoc@cox.net.  Please include your name, company, title of your talk and a short description about your presentation.  The deadline to submit is August 9, 2019.
Here are some guidelines to keep in mind when submitting your presentation for consideration.
  • The AIACOC Chit Chat program is meant to promote the importance of design and therefore must contain some element of design.
  • Chit Chat is not meant to promote one's company or product but rather to promote design and the built environment.
  • Chit Chat presentations should include a personal aspect; your personal interpretation of some sort of art / life / design experience.
  • Chit Chat is meant to not only promote architecture but other aspects of the design arts so in addition to architects and intern architects, we welcome interior designers, graphic designers, landscape architects, photographers and artists.

Thank you to KFC Engineering for hosting Architecture after 5!

AXP Friendly Firms
The AIA Oklahoma AXP Friendly Firm program (formerly "intern friendly firm") began in 2006 to recognize those firms that go above and beyond to help intern architects advance in their career through leadership opportunities and assistance throughout the licensure process. The program is now called AXP Friendly Firms to highlight the importance of the Architectural Experience Program (AXP). AIA Oklahoma believes this program benefits both the interns and the firms that participate. It helps bridge the gap between education and experience by providing the tools necessary to achieve licensure. Firms benefit by creating an atmosphere of learning and professional growth, promoting professional development of staff so that more responsibility can be shared and fostering relationships among staff that create a positive environment which aids in retention of employees and a positive reputation among likely recruits. In the end the sharing of knowledge between those who have experience and those who are eager to learn benefits the profession as a whole.

AXP Friendly Firm is now an annual designation. In order to be named an AXP friendly firm, a firm must fill out the form below and score at least 15 points. Firms who score at least 18 points will be honored as an exemplary firm. AXP Friendly Firms will be announced and certificates presented during lunch at the AIA Oklahoma Conference on Architecture on Friday, October November 4th. Applications must be submitted to AIA Oklahoma no later than Friday, September 13 th .

Host A Drink X Design Stop!

Join the Oklahoma City Foundation for Architecture for the 4th Annual Drinks X Design!

Drinks X Design is a multi-stop tour highlighting OKC's outstanding design firms and unique food & beverage offerings. An intimate group of 50 guests will visit your firm or recent project where you have the opportunity to highlight your work and the role of design in our local community. At each stop guests will enjoy a sampling of beer and food from local breweries and restaurants before continuing on to the next stop of the night. This event serves as a fundraiser for the Oklahoma City Foundation for Architecture. As such, we request that each firm partner with a restaurant and/or brewery - perhaps a past, current or future client. Firms will coordinate directly with their partners to either request that items be donated or cover associated food & beverage costs for 50 people.
Event Date: Evening of Friday, November 15, 2019
                    (6:00 - 9:00 p.m.)
Participating firms are responsible for:
  • Partnering with a restaurant and/or brewery to provide food & drinks
  • Coordinating with selected partners before & during the event
  • Supplying the Foundation with a brief firm description & logo
  • Any SWAG to be included in a goodie bag given to each guest
Participating firms are provided with:
  • Publicity through various media outlets
  • An eager audience of 50 design fans
  • Plastic cups, plates & utensils
  • OCFA liaison & volunteer to assist during the event
It is truly a fun-filled night and we sincerely hope to include your firm during the 2019 Drinks X Design!
