SMPS & AIA Upcoming Program! Register Today!
The Inside Scoop on Presenting, Professionally and Personally: How to Showcase Your and Your Firm's Talent and Expertise
Nobody knows presentations and interviews in the world of AEC like Susan Murphy. This session uses the best of her extensive experience and knowledge and breaks that down for you to practice in the here and now. Susan doesn't play games; she gives you concrete professional information and shows you how to use it immediately.
This high-spirited and fun program begins with helping you figure out what should go into your presentation or interview. What "bait" will get that desired client or audience to respond to your ideas. From colleagues to clients, you will learn how to communicate for results.
The session proceeds, showing you how to back up your intellectual bait with the physical skills that make you look as smart, experienced and professional as you are. You will also learn how to coach your teams.
This is not a lecture program. Susan put you to work and guide you in practicing proven skills in your own way. This is not personality dependent. You will leave this session with a new awareness of your skills as well as some newfound approaches to landing the big one. You will also have a terrific time. Susan Murphy is hilarious.
(Lunch is provided)
Biography: Susan Murphy has been coaching Presentation and Interview Skills for thirty years. She began her career as a high school teacher in St. Louis, Missouri, her hometown. A chance meeting led to a career in travel that took her all over the world. Her last job in the industry was Director of Travel Industry Marketing for Club Med. Susan had midlife reinvention and went to work for Communispond, the leading international communication skills firm for Fortune 500 firms. She survived a harrowing hiring audition. Then, she completed the intense and thorough Communispond faculty training and went on to become one of their top teachers and coaches. A chance encounter with SMPS landed her the keynote at a National Conference in Boston. There was no turning back once Susan met the AEC industry and the SMPS membership. Her practice is now dedicated to helping AEC firms hone their communication skills, with an emphasis on Interview Presentations and coaching.
Susan lives in Beaufort, SC and Bozouls, France and travels to her clients. When she isn't coaching and teaching or writing, she can be found reading or hiking with her doggie boyfriend, Frankie the rescue mutt, as well as the co-host, Jean Jacques, the cat. Neither responds to her coaching. Susan writes an advice column for the "Lowcountry Weekly" called "Aunt Bossy: Dear Abby on Steroids."
