AIA CENTRAL OKLAHOMA NEWS

November AIA Luncheon
Join us for the November AIA Luncheon on Thursday, November 15th at 11:30 a.m. at OSU-OKC in the Student Center on the 3rd Floor.  Our guest speaker will be Katie McLaughlin Friddle and our program will be OKC's Preservation Tools.  A few weeks ago, OKC lost another architectural gem, Founder's Bank, and many are asking why.  Join us to learn what tools are in place that can assist in  protecting buildings and landmarks in the city.

Since September 2012, Katie McLaughlin Friddle has served as the Preservation Officer for the City of Oklahoma City. Katie provides staff support to the City's Historic Preservation Commission, serves as the City's Certified Local Government Coordinator, and participates in other preservation efforts within the Planning Department.

A native Oklahoman, Katie holds a Bachelor's degree in History from the University of Oklahoma and a Master's degree in Historic Preservation from Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation. Katie completed her AICP certification in 2016.

Prior to her time with the City, Katie was Executive Director of Preservation Oklahoma, the statewide non-profit preservation advocacy organization.

AIA, Associate AIA and Allied members of the AIA Central Oklahoma Chapter attend free and the nonmember cost is $25 per person.

A big thank you to our November Luncheon Sponsors!

KIDesign Items Needed
As you know, this fall we are hosting our KIDesign program every week at Eugene Fields Elementary and teaching 4th and 5th graders.  We'd love some help with building materials for approximately 35 students. We have limited storage space so these items must fit inside 2'x3' plastic tubs; and we don't need to fill more than 2-3 tubs. We would like for everything to be in usable shape - if you wouldn't incorporate it into your own architectural model, we don't want to offer it up to the kids. All materials need to be able to be cut with scissors and with no sharp edges.

Thanks again for your continued support.

What we need:

Balsa Wood (sheets, strips)
Chip Board
Cork Board
Foamcore
Corrugated Cardboard (in good condition, without words/labels)
Toilet Paper or Paper Towel Tubes
Cardboard tubes (possibly from plotter paper) cut into 1' to 2' lengths
Small (less than 3"x3") samples of laminate, carpet, or other materials from your sample library
