As we welcome May, I’d like to thank you, our valued supporter, for staying connected with AIDH. Your interest in digital health and support for our mission to build a more connected, digitally enabled, and person-centred health system means a great deal to us.
In recent months, we’ve been actively engaging with policymakers and the broader community in the lead-up to the 2025 Federal Election. Our Election Statement 2025 outlines four key priorities we believe are essential for a future-ready health system. These priorities reflect our commitment to keeping digital health at the forefront of national policy, with bipartisan support and long-term vision. You can read more here: Election Statement 2025.
We’ve also received extensive media coverage of our Election Statement, with AIDH providing expert commentary on digital capability, AI governance, and health information sharing—helping elevate the national conversation on digital health. View our media coverage.
Looking ahead, we have a vibrant calendar of events and professional development opportunities. The highlight of the year is undoubtedly HIC2025, our flagship Health Innovation Community conference. Just last week, we launched the program and opened registrations!

You’ll find us at Booth 1037—come by, say hello, and meet the AIDH team in person. It’s a great opportunity to connect, share ideas, and celebrate the progress we’re making together.
As digital health continues to evolve, it’s inspiring to know we’re not just adapting—we’re leading the way. If you’ve been following our work and are inspired by the progress we’re making, we’d love for you to take the next step and become a member. Department of Health and Aged Care: Consultation on the design of a national registration scheme for personal care workers in Aged Care
In our submission, we focussed our feedback on Training requirements and on Skills and qualification requirements with specific consideration for digital and digital health literacy. We recommended that the Department use the Australian Digital Health Capability Framework (ADHCF) to establish the minimum digital health skills and capabilities for personal care workers in aged care. We highlighted that ongoing training will be required to maintain the digital health literacy required to perform their roles. AIDH has developed a self-assessment tool that could be used to assess the digital health capabilities of the workers in aged care setting. You can read our submission here.

Submission outcome AHPRA's Guidance on developing professional capabilities
AIDH welcomes the inclusion of references to digital health and to the Australian Digital Health Capability Framework in Ahpra’s Guidance on developing professional capabilities.
Following consultation in 2024, Ahpra published their guidance to "foster good practice and enhance efficiency and consistency in the development of new or revised professional capabilities across health professions regulated under the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (National Scheme)."
Ahpra has accepted two recommendations we made in our submission to add ‘organisation(s) with a special interest in digital health' to the list of stakeholders to be consulted, and to seek consistency with the Australian Digital Health Capability Framework when developing professional capabilities.
AIDH would welcome working with the different National Boards to support them in the development of professional capabilities as they relate to digital health. You can read AIDH’s submission here.

Update on Digital Clinical Safety Course Development
AIDH and the Australian Digital Health Agency (the Agency) are continuing to work together to develop clinical safety training modules with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). Over 30 SMEs have been engaged with a diverse range of clinical safety and digital health backgrounds from around Australia to work on the delivery of an Introductory and Intermediate course in digital clinical safety.
The SMEs have completed a thorough review of the Introductory course providing detailed and comprehensive feedback. The Agency’s Learning Design team are working to incorporate the feedback into the final course in preparation for its launch later this year.
SMEs have also completed an initial review of the Intermediate course – again providing insight and recommendations to ensure a comprehensive version that aligns to Australian standards, guidelines and processes. Over the coming weeks the Agency will draft the intermediate course with continued SME engagement.
This exciting project addresses a gap in Australian healthcare training to equip learners with practical knowledge and skills to undertake clinical safety activities throughout the full lifecycle of digital health products, from discovery to decommissioning.
The courses are aimed at those whose roles directly intersect with the digital health ecosystem including industry, health and care organisations and education. The training aims to foster a workforce that is adept at ensuring digital health meet the highest safety standards to improve patient outcomes.

AI in Healthcare: Innovation with caution
AI and large language models (LLMs) are transforming healthcare — from diagnostics to administration — but they also introduce serious cybersecurity and privacy risks.
Healthcare organisations must be aware of vulnerabilities such as misconfigurations, data poisoning, and unauthorised access to sensitive information. Without proper safeguards, these risks can compromise patient trust and safety.
To support safe adoption, AIDH encourages organisations to embed robust cybersecurity frameworks and conduct thorough due diligence when implementing AI tools.

International Nurses Day 2025 – Celebrating Strength and Impact
On Monday 12 May, we celebrate the strength, adaptability, and innovation of nurses and midwives—the largest and most trusted health workforce globally. This day is marked around the world on the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth, a pioneer whose legacy continues to inspire generations.

Their voices are vital in health policy, digital innovation, and system reform. Let’s honour their impact and advocate for their leadership in designing tomorrow’s care.
Florence Nightingale is considered the first nursing informatician, demonstrating how data can transform care—an enduring legacy that aligns with AIDH’s vision of empowering health professionals through digital innovation and evidence-based practice.
