People always the priority

Message from the CEO: It’s no secret the Digital Health Summit in Sydney next week (17-18 October) is strongly themed around people – our national health and social care workforce. All of us who saw the strain of the health system over the past two years of the pandemic understand the enormous demands placed on healthcare workers. From the frontline clinicians to healthcare executives and those who support them, few have been left untouched.

When the Government released its 2022 Skills Priority List last week, primary healthcare professionals, particularly nurses and midwives, are in the top 20 Occupations in Demand. Building digital health capability into the workforce has become even more important if we are to deliver accessible healthcare for all Australians in the digital age.

Drawing on our community of collaborators, speakers and supporters, the Institute has curated a Summit program to reflect the most topical issues of the day: Future proofing the health workforce; addressing skills shortages; building workforce capability in aged and community care; digitally transforming health education; moving beyond telehealth. There will be an interactive discussion on building the digital health workforce in NSW and a special presentation from the education sector on attracting future talent and skills into digital health careers.

We are about to have some of the most important conversations about the digital health workforce you will hear in Australia this year.

I look forward to seeing you (in person 😊) in Sydney next week.

Dr Louise Schaper PhD FAIDH FIAHSI CHIA BSc(OT)Hons

CEO, Australasian Institute of Digital Health

Expert view: Speaking the language of nursing, midwifery and informatics

The Nursing.Midwifery Community of Practice has raised the changing role of leaders in digital health and in this month’s article, talks about positioning CNMIOs for success. Article author Dr Helen Almond FAIDH

says CNMIOs are well-positioned to be change agents within their respective health and care organisations. “This is due to their knowledge and experience with digital health transformation, as well as their leadership skills that allow for relationship building.” CNMIOs work in strategic innovation discussions as strategy interpreters; they speak the languages of nursing, midwifery, and informatics.
