CALL FOR PROPOSALS

Blackfeet Community College will be hosting an International Blackfoot Research Conference on June 15th, 2023-June 16th, 2023 located in Browning, MT. The theme of the research conference is “Culture as Medicine”

This is a call for proposals from all of our Blackfoot researchers (and advocates) to submit a presentation proposal to help contribute to a growing body of knowledge pertinent to the Siksikaitsitapi people. The objective of this conference is to feature the traditional research processes of the Blackfoot, while also honoring Westernized (and other) methods of research. In particular, the college would like to recognize any Blackfoot researchers (and advocates) to share and present on their published work, doctoral dissertations/master’s thesis, research projects, and/or career related research. Additionally, students are also encouraged to submit proposals on class projects and research, via poster sessions. Lastly, the International Blackfoot Research Conference will recognize eminent scholars and elders to share knowledge on the traditional research process, which may include oral tradition, language, and our traditional lifeways.

Please consider the submission of a proposal. Presentations on Blackfoot language, culture, and studies will be prioritized in the acceptance of proposals. Presentations in other areas may include: Agriculture, Arts & Media, Business, Computer Science & Technology, Education, Health Care Fields, Humanities, Human Services, Industrial Services, Law & Legal Studies, Math & Science, or other areas. Work in these areas must be focused on the advancement of the Blackfoot (or Indigenous) peoples and/or research conducted by Blackfoot people.

Notification: May 15th, 2023

Conference Dates: June 15th, 2023 to June 16th, 2023

Humanities Research Grants Available for Faculty and Staff at Tribal Colleges and Universities

The NEH Awards for Faculty program seeks to strengthen the humanities at Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs) by encouraging and expanding humanities research opportunities for individual faculty and staff members. The program is open to all faculty and staff members, including full time, part time, adjunct, and retired faculty and staff at Tribal Colleges and Universities.

The next application deadline is April 12, 2023 for projects beginning in 2024 and 2025. Staff will be accepting draft narratives and work plans (optional), which are due by February 8, 2023 to FacultyAwards@neh.gov.

The program continues to offer applicants flexibility in project types and award periods. • the development of materials in support of sustaining, preserving and revitalizing culture or language

• research leading to the improvement of an existing undergraduate or graduate course

• research and preparation leading to the development of a humanities seminar for students at the affiliated institution and/or members of the local community.

For additional project examples, sample narratives, and full details, please see the Notice of Funding Opportunity and the program page on the NEH website.
