The Department of Education has announced it is accepting applications for fiscal year 2024 for Personnel Development to Improve Services and Results for Children with Disabilities. This personnel preparation program of special education, early interventions, and related services personnel will prioritize Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and other Minority Serving Institutions applications.
The purpose of this program is to prepare scholars to serve children, including infants, toddlers, and youth with disabilities through a bachelor’s degree, certification, master’s degree, education specialist degree, or clinical doctoral degree levels to serve in various settings.
The deadline for applications is February 20, 2024.

U.S. Department of Agriculture Internships and Fellowship – Application deadline EXTENDED | |

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), 1994 Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs) Program has announced that the deadlines for the 2024 Summer Internships Program and the Terra Preta do Indio Tribal Fellowship have been extended to January 30, 2024.
USDA 1994 Tribal Scholars Program, will provide full tuition, employment, housing or a living stipend, employee benefits, fees, and books each year for up to 4 years to selected students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in agriculture, food science, natural resources science, or a related academic discipline.
Terra Preta do Indio Tribal Fellowship, seeks to provide land-grant institutions, and Tribal High School faculty and staff with the opportunity to address challenges in Tribal agriculture and for USDA to provide training about resources and opportunities available at USDA. This fellowship will offer the opportunity to develop collegial relationships with other 1994 tribal land-grant colleges and universities.

Are you a student, researcher, or professional with a passion for solar energy?
You can work for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Solar Energy Technologies Office advancing solar technologies and deployment through the Science, Technology, and Policy Fellowship! Selected participants will play an integral role in designing and implementing new initiatives to make solar energy more affordable and reliable. They will support office-wide research, development, and demonstration efforts in photovoltaics, concentrating solar-thermal power, and grid integration technologies, as well as solar manufacturing and workforce, behavioral science, data analysis, environmental and energy justice, and stakeholder outreach.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is conducting a webinar on the Build and Boaden Program, this program provides funding for research, training opportunities, and new research infrastructure in the social, behavioral, and economic sciences at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic-serving Institutions, and Tribal Colleges and Universities. During this event, Program Director Enrique S. Pumar will give an overview of the programs, funding cycle, best practices, etc.

AIHEC CI Team Application to Become a TCU Cyber Team
The AIHEC Cyberinfrastructure (CI) Team has released an application for all Tribal Colleges and Universities to use to consider becoming a Cyber Team. TCUs selected to become a Cyber Team will be provided a $100,000 subaward to advance campus cyberinfrastructure and be engaged with the AIHEC CI Team over a two-year period in a customize program to further develop CI on your TCU campus. Initiatives included in the customized program may include:
● A CI site visit resulting in focused engagements to assess and address cyberinfrastructure issues and campus priorities identified during the site visit.
● CI strategic planning and policy development
● Hands-on proposal development support to fund future CI activities and equipment.
● Campus-specific cybersecurity support and guidance.
● CI facilitation for campus research activities, especially in Native language, Climate Science, GIS, and Data Storage.
● CI professional and workforce development support.

Department of Education: Accepting Applications for 2024 Indian Education Discretionary Grants –
Native American Language Program

The Department of Education announced this week that it is accepting applications for the fiscal year 2024 Indian Education Discretionary Grants Program – Native American Language Program. The purpose of this funding is to (1) support schools that use Native American and Alaska Native languages as the primary language of instruction; (2) maintain, protect, and promote the rights and freedom of Native American and Alaska Natives to use, practice, maintain, and revitalize their languages, as envisioned in the Native American Languages Act of 1990; and (3) supports the Nation’s First Peoples’ to maintain and revitalize their languages and cultures, and to improve educational opportunities and student outcomes within Native American and Alaska Native communities.
The Department of Education will be hosting a pre-application meeting on December 26, 2023. Applications will be due on March 7, 2024.

Election Assistance Commission: Help America Vote College Program Funding Opportunity | |

The Election Assistance Commission (EAC) has announced two notice of funding opportunities: Help America Vote College Program Poll Worker and Help American Vote College Program Service Day Mini-Grant Program to provide funding to recruit, train, and support students serving as poll workers on Election Day. The purpose of this funding opportunity is to (1) Encourage students enrolled at institutions of higher education to assist State and local governments in the administration of elections; (2) Encourage college students to become cognizant of the elections process and civic education; and (3) Encourage state and local governments to use the services of the students participating in the program.
The deadline for proposals is Monday, December 18, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Extension Foundation Announces New Technologies for Ag Extension Funding Opportunity | |

NTAE (New Technologies for Ag Extension) a grant from NIFA (National Institute of Food and Agriculture) will begin Year 1 with the Extension Foundation in January 2024. EXF has the subaward for this grant from the University of New Hampshire who is the prime award for this funding. Within the funding EXF receives from the NTAE grant, one of the grant activity focus areas are the development of projects that lead to local impact and align with both USDA Strategic Goals and the ECOP Program Priority Areas. The recruitment of these projects is starting now! Project leaders will apply for one of the four types of projects this grant will support: Incubation, Acceleration, Expansion and Scaling.
Office hours will be held in order for applicants to “drop in” to ask any questions they may have about the application, grant process, budget, project expectations, etc.

FAFSA Update

This week the Department of Education released state-by-state data and details showing that the simplified, redesigned, and streamlined 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will help more low-income students receive Pell Grants. With this redesign, this application will aid 1.5 million more students in receiving the maximum amount for Pell Grants. These changes and redesigns are a part of the Department of Education’s implementation of the bipartisan FUTURE Act and the FAFSA Simplification Act.

The Biden-Harris Administration has announced grant funding to strengthen the Forest Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), to create new markets for wood products, and renewable wood energy, and to address climate control. This is the largest climate investment providing nearly $50 million for grants. | |
