Administration for Native Americans Upcoming Listening Session for AIHEC Member TCUs

The Administration for Native Americans (ANA) has announced it will be conducting a listening session on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. ET. During this session, ANA will be discussing the Durbin Feeling Native Languages Act, which supports the preservation and revitalization of Native languages. ANA is in the process of developing and implementing a nationwide survey.

DUE TOMORROW!

In partnership with the Craft Emergency Relief Fund (CERF+), ATALM is launching a dynamic six-month program that will empower, nurture, and celebrate 20 talented Native craft artists.

For the purpose of this program, "craft artist" is defined as artists who create or reproduce handmade objects for sale and exhibition using a variety of techniques such as weaving, pottery, beadwork, needlework, jewelry making, and other forms.


Key Program Features:

  • Funding of $10,000 for each of the 20 chosen artists.
  • Tailored training sessions to enhance business practices, including the production of a business and marketing plan.
  • Access to a wealth of resources, including materials, workshops, and tools.
  • One-on-one coaching from artists with successful careers. Coaches will receive national recognition for their leadership and generosity.


Applications for Craft Artists and Coaches/Mentors are now open through September 30, 2023. 


Accepted artists will be announced on October 26 at the ATALM conference. Questions may be directed to grants@atalm.org.

Foreign Agriculture Service International Agricultural Fellowship Program

The Foreign Agriculture Service (FAS) is investing in the future by creating a path for outstanding students, particularly those from minority groups historically under-represented at USDA, to pursue careers in the U.S. Foreign Service.


The FAS International Agricultural Fellowship Program provides the following:

·      Funding up to $42,000 per year for two years to attend two-year graduate programs in Agribusiness or Agricultural Economics at U.S. universities.

·      A summer internship working at the Foreign Agricultural Service in Washington, D.C., with a stipend, housing, and transportation.

·      An overseas summer internship working in a FAS office at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate, with a stipend, housing, and transportation.

·      Mentoring from a FAS Foreign Service Officer

·      Professional Development

Spotlight on Humanities in Higher Education

The Spotlight on Humanities in Higher Education program supports the exploration and development of small projects that would benefit underserved populations through the teaching and study of the humanities at small and medium-sized colleges and universities. NEH invites applications from two- and four-year institutions of higher education, as well as from nonprofit organizations and state, local, or Native American Tribal governments aiming to advance the humanities at these institutions.

2024 Tribal Library E-Rate Pilot Program Now Available

The Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Tribal Library E-Rate Pilot Program is now open for applications. The applications are accepted on a rolling basis. To complete the application, please follow this link.


The FCC hosted a launch webinar earlier this month that discussed the application process and an overview of the program. Cankdeska Cikana Community College (CCCC) acknowledges CCCC Board of Regents members for their service as they leave the Board.

Heather Skadsem was put on the Board by the Wood Lake District in 2016 and she has served until this year. Heather was a CCCC graduate and then went on to get her bachelors from Mayville State University. Heather was a great asset to our college.

 

Wicahpi Tawacinhehomni has been the longest serving representative from Fort Totten District for CCCC Board of Regents. Wacahpi has served on the board for a culmination of 23 years. She has seen CCCC change throughout the years.

Native Collective Research Effort to Enhance Wellness (N CREW): Addressing Overdose, Substance Use, Mental Health, and Pain Program

Apply today! The National Institutes of Health (NIH) seeks

to support Tribes and Native American Serving Organizations (T/NASOs) to

conduct locally prioritized research to address overdose, substance use, or

pain, and related factors such as mental health and wellness.  

Part of the NIH HEAL Initiative®, the Native Collective Research Effort

to Enhance Wellness (N CREW) Program is a highly collaborative partnership between NIH,

T/NASOs, and Ally organizations established to directly respond to the drug

overdose and addiction public health emergency. The N CREW Program intends to

build research capacity within T/NASOs. For Research Opportunity Announcement

(ROA) OTA-23-007, NIH will

prioritize meritorious applicants who have not previously applied for or

received NIH funding.  

T/NASOs that receive

funding via the N CREW Program will collaborate with T/NASO and Ally

Organizations that are selected through OTA-23-008 to form a

Native Research Resource Network. This Network will provide comprehensive,

real-time training and resources.

Strengthening Community Colleges Training Grants Program

Strengthening Community Colleges Training Grants - Round 4 (SCC4)


Application Due Date: November 14, 2023


The U.S. Department of Labor announced on August 17, 2023, the availability of $65 million to increase community colleges’ ability to provide equitable access to training to meet employers’ and workers’ skill development needs for in-demand industries. In the fourth round of funding, the Strengthening Community Colleges Training Grants will concentrate on the capacity of community colleges to address identified equity gaps to increase access to educational and economic opportunities for dislocated workers and new entrants to the workforce, as well as employed workers seeking to advance in their careers, particularly for individuals from historically underserved communities.



Grants will be up to $1.75 million for single institutions and up to $5.75 million for consortium applicants. A subset of colleges will participate in a planned impact evaluation to assess employment outcomes. The department will award additional funding to grantees chosen for the national impact evaluation, and they will have extra time to complete the grant project. 



National Science Foundation Update

The National Science Foundation (NSF) released a Dear Colleague Letter that discusses advancing computer science education through NSF’s Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCU) Program. The CHIPS and Science Act highlights the importance of broadening science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) educational opportunities for students and faculty at minority-serving institutions (MSIs).


The letter invites TCUs to submit proposals that focus on ideas and projects that can enrich the institutions’ offerings in computer science, computational thinking, and related programs. The NSF is accepting proposals through November 30, 2023.

Federal Communications Commission New Low Power FM Filing Window

New Low Power FM Filing Window

The FCC released a Public Notice for an application filing window for the new Low Power FM (LPFM) radio stations. This filing window will provide Tribes, among others, the opportunity to apply for a new LPFM station that can cover a localized service area in need of a radio station. Potential applicants should carefully read the Public Notice, which provides an overview of application procedures, filing requirements, and comparative selection process that will apply to the upcoming filing window for LPFM new station construction permits. The filing window will be open at 12:01 am ET on November 1, 2023, and closes at 6:00 pm ET on November 8, 2023. Applications should be submitted through the FCC’s Media Bureau’s Licensing and Management System.

Department of Education Announces New Grant Opportunities for Tribal Colleges and Universities

The Department of Education announced this week that it is launching two grant opportunities that will provide nearly $100 million to expand research infrastructure and increase completion and retention rates in Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs).


The Research and Development Infrastructure Grant Program (RDI) will provide $50 Million to implement transformational research infrastructure. For TCUs, the funds will support an increase in research activities, undergraduate research opportunities, faculty development, and more. Applications for this program are due Monday, October 2, 2023.



The Postsecondary Student Success Grant (PSSG) Program will provide $45 million to fund evidence-based strategies that result in improved student outcomes for underserved students. Applications for this program are due Monday, September 25, 2023.

New Funding Opportunity: ADVANCE Predoctoral T32 Training Program to Promote Prevention Workforce Diversity


Help diversify the prevention workforce with a predoctoral research training program!


The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Disease Prevention (ODP) and participating Institutes, Centers, and Offices are inviting applications to develop ADVANCE T32 programs to train predoctoral scholars from diverse backgrounds in all three of the following areas:


·      Health disparities/health equity research

·      Development and implementation of multi-level preventive interventions

·      Methods for the design and analysis of studies to evaluate multi-level preventive interventions


The funding opportunity (RFA-OD-23-018) encourages institutions to diversify the trainee applicant pool by recruiting potential candidates from diverse backgrounds, including groups that are underrepresented in the biomedical, clinical, behavioral, and social sciences.


Applications are due October 31, 2023.


This funding opportunity was developed by the ODP-coordinated

Advancing Prevention Research for Health Equity (ADVANCE) initiative, an NIH-wide effort to develop and evaluate preventive interventions that address health disparities.
