Podcast: Reaching net zero in horticulture
The Zero Net Emissions Agriculture Cooperative Research Centre (ZNE-Ag CRC), aims to co-ordinate opportunities to develop, derisk, and scale technologies while growing profitable and sustainable farming businesses.
This episode of the Vegalogue podcast features Richard Heath, CEO of ZNE-Ag CRC and a Director of the Grains Research and Development Corporation, who says that horticulture makes up just over 1% of the total 17% that agriculture contributes to Australia's emissions.
Much of what we do in horticulture is already well on the way to Australia’s net-zero goals, and Richard explains that the main goal is improving efficiencies and continually building best practices.

Spraying contractor Rob Mitchell wants people to use more caution while driving, ahead of harvest. (ABC Great Southern: Mark Bennett)
Heavy vehicle drivers on country roads will often use their right indicator to signal trailing drivers that it is safe to pass. While common, the practice is illegal and is increasingly leading to close calls between vehicles.
An important safety message for both heavy vehicle operations and all drivers who share the road with them.

Record olive harvest in Croatia, yet less oil than ever
The olive processing season is in full swing in Croatia. While the olive harvest is at a record high, the amount of olive oil produced is the lowest it’s ever been, which will undoubtedly affect its price … The olives are full of water. Yields are averaging around nine to ten percent, which is much lower than in previous years for this time of year.
