2025 AIOA winners crowned!

Australian olive growers overcame drought, frost and flood to produce a quality offering of extra virgin olive oils, flavoured oils and table olives in 2025.


Winners of the 2025 Australian International Olive Awards were announced in Adelaide on 30 October - and more than 200 platinum, gold, silver and bronze medals awarded - highlighting the supreme quality of Australian olive products and their diverse aromas, flavours and textures.


Best Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) of Show, Boutique Volume, was awarded to NSW's Hannaford Olive Oil’s Corregiola and Paragon blend – a delicate oil with a polyphenol level of 87.


Adelaide Hills producer Rio Vista Olives took home Best EVOO of Show, Commercial Volume, for its Signore Extra Virgin Olive Oil.


Victoria’s Kyneton Olive Oil took home the Best Flavoured Olive Oil of Show, Commercial Volume trophy for its Chilli Agrumato, while Best Flavoured Olive Oil of Show, Boutique Volume, was awarded to Pendleton Olive Estate from the SA’s Limestone Coast, for its Blood Orange Agrumato.


Victoria’s Lisadurne Hill was awarded the Best Table Olive of Show, Boutique Volume trophy for its Kalamata olives, while Spain’s Goya en España S.A.U GOYA® secured the Best Table Olive of Show, Commercial Volume trophy for its Whole Queen Olives Stuffed with Minced Pimientos.


Congratulations to all of this year’s medal and trophy winners – you’ve done the industry very proud!

National Olive Industry Conference & Exhibition 2025 - the week that was

by There wasn’t a spare seat in the house during last week’s National Olive Industry Conference & Exhibition in Adelaide.


Productivity and profitability was the theme of the 2025 event, attracting delegates from across Australia and abroad for three jam-packed days of learning and discovery.


And with so much industry insight and expert advice available to olive growers in one place, it’s no wonder this valuable industry event continues to grow year-on-year.

Australian olive industry in the media spotlight

The Australian olive industry was front and centre for ABC listeners last week.

NSW DPI olive oil testing service to cease


NSW DPI's Wagga Wagga edible oil and oilseed laboratory will soon cease commercial operation.


The final date for receiving samples at the laboratory is 14 November 2025. For more information, visit their website.

Testing Australia’s response to exotic fruit fly threats


Plant Health Australia (PHA) in collaboration with government and industry delivered Exercise Motus to test Australia’s preparedness for a detection of Bactrocera dorsalis (oriental fruit fly). This is currently an exotic pest to Australia and one of the most serious threats to our horticultural sector.

NFF urges action on workforce shortages in Australian agriculture


The National Farmers' Federation (NFF) has identified regional workforce shortages as a key barrier to productivity growth in Australian agriculture. In a recent report, the organisation said that better long-term planning is needed to sustain the sector's performance and resilience.

Hot and dry autumn is lowering the forecast for olive oil production in Spain


Spain’s largest agricultural cooperative has revised its olive oil production estimates down to 1.3 million metric tons for the 2025/26 crop year due to lack of rain and high temperatures in September and October.

Spain sets surplus mechanism for olive oil, giving mills and packers a tool to curb swings


Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture has approved a new mechanism allowing temporary withdrawals of olive oil from the market during the 2025 – 26 crop year to prevent prices from collapsing when surpluses occur, according to Europa Press.

Texas olive industry still struggles after 2021 freeze


Like most olive tree orchards, Jim Bugg's LadyBugg Farm was devastated by the February 2021 freeze, perhaps better known as "that time it snowed and got really, really cold back in 2021."


Nearly every tree on his 15-acre Sutherland Springs farm died to the ground due to the frigid temperatures and severe weather.

Producers proclaim, ‘Greek olive oil is our culture’


“Since ancient times, we have had olive oil in our blood,” according to producer Eftychis Androulakis (Pamako). He is referring to Greece’s long and continuing tradition of making and eating olive oil.

The European olive oil sector is experiencing a return to an average production trend after a two-year period of reduced supply that caused extra virgin olive oil prices to soar to over 10 euros per litre.
