STORIES OF ADA AREA ENTREPRENEURS & INNOVATORS

Designing Innovation for a New Generation: The Pontotoc Technology Center FabLab

The humble beginnings of the FabLab started with a single 3D printer, but over time, with the help of grants and school funding, they have grown.

WEFTEC 2022

What happened: Last week, the Ada Jobs Foundation visited the WEFTEC Tradeshow, the largest annual gathering of water technology and engineering companies facilited by the Water Environment Federation (WEF). Jim Eldridge, from the Ada Jobs Foundation, was joined by Duane Smith, with the Oka’ Institute, and Cody Holcomb with the City of Ada.

Emerging Technologies were a key focus for the Ada Jobs Foundation on this trip. The group had an opportunity to visit multiple startup companies in the show’s innovation pavilion. The show also created an opportunity to better understand how certain companies and technologies could be applied to a rural or “distributed” water system. The Ada Jobs Foundation has looked to startups with a water or environmental science technology as a model for a company that could commercialize research happening in the Ada area.

#ADAWORKS CAREER AWARENESS SOCIAL MEDIA CONTEST WINNERS

The Ada Jobs Foundation (AJF) proudly recognizes the winners of the #AdaWorks Career Awareness Social Media Contest.

This contest is an effort through the Workforce Development and Talent Action Team. The Action Team was created through the Ada Jobs Foundation’s DEPTH initiative to ensure Ada’s employers can find talent and ensure a thriving community. As part of this work, the Career Awareness Social Media Contest is a way to create awareness of four critical career pathways in our community: Manufacturing, Healthcare, IT, and STEM. The contest looks to our local students as experts and creates space for our area high school students to create content with the goal of creating more excitement around careers in these fields.

"Engaging youth in the community and showing them the opportunities available locally adds value to our region," shared Daniel Castaneda with the Ada Jobs Foundation. "Ada Jobs Foundation will continue to create opportunities for interaction and will work with faculty at Pontotoc Tech and area schools to get even more students involved."

Congratulations to Brady Boeck, Yeshua Anderson, and Alexa Thompson for creating a piece of social media content that highlighted a program at Pontotoc Technology Center (PTC) or East Central University (ECU) that promotes manufacturing, IT, STEM, and/or health.

Brady Boeck and Yeshua Anderson are both students at PTC in an Information Technology program in hopes of being future sound engineers.

Alexa Thompson participated in PTC’s Health Sciences program and is now a registered CNA.
