May has opened with beautiful weather and a glorious

weekend at Jazz Festival.

We are celebrating Jacobo Roa's recognition at the Mexican pavilion in the center of the fairgrounds with a photo blowup of a mural he painted in Merida, Mexico. He has been here in the gallery and enjoying a marvelous time in New Orleans.

For the past few months we have been working diligently to

remodel the second floor of the gallery for the future home of

Angela King Gallery. We have not finalized when the transition

will happen, but we are ready for it when the time comes.

Please enjoy a few photos of our fabulous new space.

Change, evolution, growth... enjoy our path.

With gratitude for all the love and support for these 45 plus years!

JAZZ FEST 2025

JACOBO ROA

Roa establishes euphoric connections between the visual and poetic elements of Mexican art, from pre-Hispanic into the present. The work references the currents in modern art and the surrealistic world of the jungle and the Caribbean Sea in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

NEW WORKS

Puro Chile Acrylic/Canvas 53" x 73"

El Gallo Mano 2025 MM/Collage/Paper 22.5" x 28.2"

Roa’s process is chaotic and exciting. He always has dozens of pieces in the process at once, working on opaline paper, canvas and wood panels with acrylics, ink, charcoal, pencil and crayon. His use of mixed media allows him to create accidents, effects and textures. He believes that all the works relate to one another.

PATTERSON & BARNES

Patterson & Barnes first collaborated in 1990 and soon developed a series of paintings based on jazz and blues musicians.

This series was born from their mutual interest in these original American art forms and the emotional power they expressed.

Each painting is a collaborative effort between them using many mediums including acrylic, watercolor, India ink, collage and constructions.

Please enjoy these new works being presented for

Jazz Fest 2025.

SUMMER IN DOUILLET PALETTE

RAYMOND DOUILLET

Douillet is a contemporary Surrealist with links to his artistic ancestors: Magritte, Bosch, de Chirico, Duchamp,

Tanguy and others.

Working at his studio in an old coaching inn among the fields of a French farm community, the artist creates works unparalleled in their quality and attention to detail. Those paintings remain on the easel for many months to years at a time. When Douillet visits his summer home, he creates playful, light-hearted but equally exacting paintings depicting summer life at the coast.

Enjoy "Waiting for the Green Ray," "The Balls," "The Regatta," and "The Game of Pétanque." These works represent a departure from Douillet’s narrative surreal paintings and offer a glimpse of Douillet’s recreational moments outside the studio at the French seaside.

Waiting for the green Ray, 57.5" x 38" acrylic/oil/canvas

The Balls, 45.5" x 35" acrylic/oil/canvas

The Regatta, 51" x 38" acrylic/oil/canvas

The Game of Petanque 51" x 38" acrylic/oil/canvas

NEW WORKS

STEVEN KENNY

"All my paintings are self-referential. They all are a reflection of some experience of mine or some facet of myself.

My paintings most often focus on the human figure paired with elements found in nature. These surreal, symbolic juxtapositions are intended to work on at least two levels.

The first alludes to the fact that we are an integral part of the natural world and subject to its laws. This seems like an obvious statement until we step back and objectively assess our symbiotic relationship with each other and the Earth. Depending on your perspective, these relationships fall somewhere on the scale between harmonious and dysfunctional.

The second turns the lens around to look inward upon the stewardship of our own emotional, intellectual and psychological landscapes. The same pictorial subject matter allows me to make references to our individual journeys of self-exploration and discovery. Again, depending on who is holding the compass, we are either lost or on the right path.

At the very least, I desire to create images of beauty and mystery that allow viewers to find their own personal significance in them."
