June marks the wonderful 80th birthday of our cherished Kathy O'Shaughnessy! Kathy, our gallery administrator, talented yogini,
and an exceptional friend to us all, is also embarking on a well-deserved retirement after an incredible 37 years with the gallery. Starting as our gallery painter, then shipper and inventory control, evolving to bookkeeping and managing the back of house.
Kathy gave us notice last June on her 79th birthday, and
we now wish her all the very best in this new chapter.
Kathy (KO), thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your unwavering loyalty, honesty, diligence, remarkable work ethic,
and, most importantly, your friendship over these many years.

June celebrates Juneteenth, a federal holiday that recognizes the freedom of formerly enslaved Black people. The Emancipation Proclamation was signed on January 1, 1863 but it wasn't until June 19, 1865 when the U.S. Army took possession of Galveston Island in Texas and began a campaign against the defenders of slavery, that the enslaved people of Galveston could begin their journey towards freedom. Let us hope that the progress made during the last 160 years regarding programs of diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility will continue and not revert to the dark ages.

June is also PRIDE Month, a time dedicated to celebrating the LGBTQ community. We take this opportunity to acknowledge the ongoing struggles and significant achievements of this community
and to continue advocating for equality and inclusion for all.
Julie and I are also celebrating 40 wonderful years together, and we
deeply appreciate the open-mindedness and acceptance of diverse
lifestyles within the art world.

of symbolism and color. The imagery in Roa’s work is a collection of messages, poems, letters; scientific formulas, magic recipes, classifications of ants, medicinal plants and herbs; addresses, numbers, cities, arrows, signs, compasses, names and
places that inhabit his world.

RICHARD CURRIER
Celebrating Summer
| | |
To experience a Richard Currier painting is to wake up to a moment. Entering a sea or landscape, we become aware at the axis of ocean, earth and atmosphere. Pausing in the presence of these works, we are invited to journey deeper into ourselves.
“Humidity and haze permeates the atmosphere…I am painting the space between the objects more than the objects themselves.” Standing with a Currier painting, we experience that space. Our pores may involuntarily open, we may smell the saline, hear the gulls. The painter flushes water to life, takes us deeper into the world of the ocean—and into our own world reflected in the ever-changing wave.
