As the year draws to a close, I was enlightened to learn about the 24 Buddhist monks walking from Fort Worth Texas to Washington D.C.
to promote Peace. The Walk for Peace will cover 2,300 miles and will take around 120 days. The venerable monks left Ft. Worth on
October 26, 2025 and will arrive in D.C. around February 16, 2026.
I began following the Walk for Peace on Instagram which can become a black hole that I do my best to avoid...this, however, has been the first exception to my rule. Everyday the monks pass through small
and large towns, along highways and city streets, country roads and historic bridges (Selma, Alabama). People of all walks of life come
out to see them, honor them and hear their message. I have never seen such a universal call to peace and loving kindness as is demonstrated by this simple act of walking. The flood of positive emotions and acceptance being demonstrated by the American people receiving the monks in communities across the south is overwhelming and so uplifting. My heart is full and my tears of joy continue to fall. It is the best I have felt about "We The People" in many years...
Here are some quotes from the venerable monks:
"Where is peace needed most? In our own families.
The family is the closest place, and also where conflict most easily arises. If there is peace in the family, then there will be peace among neighbors and friends. From there, the world can have peace. When one person has peace, when one family has peace, that energy radiates outward and nourishes all of us."
"We have been welcomed by small gatherings of a few gentle souls, and by crowds of thousands whose voices rose like a wave— recently, magnificently, unforgettably. Sometimes the greeting arrives in whispers. Sometimes it arrives in joyful noise that fills the air . We measure sincerity by the courage it takes to show up and say, in whatever way feels true, 'I believe in what you are doing.' "
This IS a Happy New Year...Peace and Love, Angela
