An Update from the Adult Learning Center
Dear ALC Family,

It is with great pleasure that I write to inform you that on June 1, 2021, the Adult Learning Center will open its doors in our new location at Milwaukee’s “City on a Hill.” Our new address will be 2224 West Kilbourn Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53233. Our phone number will not change - it is still 414-263-5874, and our contact email address is still “” The secured main entrance is on the northeast corner of 23rd & Kilbourn, with additional secure entrances along the 23rd street side of the building, across from the large, off-street parking lot.

Since 1979, the Adult Learning Center has focused on our mission of providing motivated adults with basic education, life-long learning opportunities, and resources to transform their lives and contribute to their communities. This move will provide many benefits and opportunities to our organization and our students. The location is much closer to our student population, allowing easier access to our program and services. As home to about a dozen other non-profit organizations, relocating to City on a Hill will allow the Adult Learning Center to refer students to family and youth support services that are located right down the hall, rather than across town. Dedicated off-street parking and secured entrances ensure that students, staff, and volunteers will have safe, reliable access to the facility at all times. Additionally, as we continue to adapt to our students’ needs during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, we can adapt this new facility’s capacity and arrangement to serve both in-person and online-only students. This, in turn, leads to a significant decrease (30%) in monthly expenses related to building occupancy and maintenance.

Your partnership with the Adult Learning Center is a major reason for our success, and we look forward to sharing the development of our new facility with you over this spring and summer. If you have any questions about the new location or our services, please call, text, or email us and we’ll be happy to help. We hope to be able to safely welcome you to the “new” ALC at the start of the Fall 2021 semester, and we will keep you informed and updated throughout the relocation process.

More about the Move

Our move to City on a Hill is an intentional decision with a two-fold purpose: not only will it allow us to focus on providing mission-oriented services to our students, but also allow us to honor our commitment to being good stewards of funds raised for that purpose.

Mission-Driven Move
In regard to our mission, this move will allow our students to access to more services with other City on a Hill agencies, at a location closer to where more of them live. Staff will be able to focus on delivering high-quality GED and Digital Literacy instruction, more in line with the mission of the ALC. The ALC will be the only adult education program in the area as well. These factors all played a significant part in our decision to move to the City on a Hill facility.

Financial Stewardship
Additionally, in an effort to be fiscally responsible, the ALC sees this move as one that will provide for longer term financial stability and allow our 42-year tradition to continue transforming lives here in Milwaukee. The move will allow us to save significantly on various budget items, including a rent reduction of nearly 50%, while utilities and maintenance obligations will disappear entirely. We have seen the need for adult education services in Milwaukee increasing and are making this move to ensure we can continue providing services until the need no longer exists.
The Adult Learning Center has enjoyed spending more than 10 years in our current facility here at St. Francis. We appreciate your support over the years and welcome your questions about the impact of this move. You can reach us at ,, or at 414-263-5874.
