Resolutions for the Annual Leadership Conference

Resolutions, What Are They?

What is the purpose of the resolution?

Resolutions ask the Academy (AAP) to address vital child health, member or AAP organizational matters. Members can propose actions for the Academy to take on issues not covered in current policies or suggest the initiation of new programs or activities.

Who Can Write a Resolution?

Any voting member of the AAP, Chapters, Committees, Councils, Sections and Districts, may write and submit a resolution. Pediatric trainees need a voting member to co-write the resolution.

What Has Changed for 2026?

  • Several important updates were made to the resolution process.
  • Each resolution may have only one sponsor.
  • Each resolution may have no more than two lead authors.
  • Resolutions are limited to four “Whereas” clauses and two “Resolved” clauses.
  • Background information is limited to 750 words and must include the required elements outlined in the official submission form.
  • A maximum of five verifiable references may be included, ideally provided in hyperlinked form.
  • Authors are required to complete a Conflict of Interest disclosure, provide a verification statement confirming the accuracy of all information, and attest to alignment with the AAP mission.
