Aldersgate, Baptism, Pentecost:
A Sunday to Celebrate!
Happy Pentecost Sunday!
This upcoming Sunday is an exceptionally special Sunday at Cross Roads United Methodist Church. Sunday will be a celebration trifecta.
Firstly, Sunday is Pentecost Sunday.
Pentecost is the Sunday where we celebrate the presence, power, and person of God the Holy Spirit. On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit rained down from heaven. This rain of the Spirit saturated Jesus’ very first followers from the inside out. Their hearts, minds, and souls were filled with the sweet Holy Spirit.
Secondly, Sunday is also Aldersgate Day.
228 years ago on May 24, 1738 at a Moravian church on Aldersgate Street, John Wesley, the pioneering theologian of the United Methodist Church, felt the Holy Spirit strangely warm his heart. The Holy Spirit’s strange warming of the heart offered John Wesley an assurance that he was loved by God.
Thirdly, we will celebrate New Members and Baptism Sunday. Sunday we welcome the Avila family into the Christian family through profession of faith and baptism.
What a glorious Sunday it will be to be in the house of God! Come let us worship the sweet Holy Spirit! Come let us our hearts be strangely warmed! Come let us receive new members into the family of faith.
The scripture this Sunday comes from
Acts 2:1-18; 37-38; 41 NRSVUE
