Reimbursement update for Canaloplasty from iScience Interventional

November 4, 2010

Dear Canaloplasty Pioneers,

iScience Interventional is proud to announce that the AMA-CPT panel has just published the new CAT I CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) code for Canaloplasty, and the associated RVU valuation for professional fee calculation and facility payment rates.

There are actually two (2) new codes associated with the use of the iTrack Canaloplasty Microcatheter; CPT 66175 and 66174. 66175 is used when Canaloplasty with suture or stent placement is completed; 66174 would be used when the iTrack Canaloplasty Microcatheter is utilized to dilate Schlemm's canal, but suture placement is not possible.

Below are the CMS National Average payment rates associated with these two new CPT codes (Payment rates calculated using the 2010 conversion factor of $36.8729 - these payment rates could change if the conversion factor is modified):

66175 - Transluminal dilation of Schlemm's canal with suture placement

o Professional payment $1210.54

o ASC payment $1675.21

o HOPD Payment $2978.11

66174 - Transluminal dilation of Schlemm's canal without suture placement

o Professional payment $1067.84

o ASC payment $1675.21

o HOPD Payment $2978.11

These new codes go into effect on January 1st, 2011. Until that date, you should continue to utilize CPT code 0177T when billing for Canaloplasty with suture or stent placement, and 0176T when billing for a Canaloplasty that is attempted, but suture or stent placement is not possible. In previous communiqus I have shared with you that iScience Interventional has partnered with The Reimbursement Group (TRG); TRG stands at the ready to help you incorporate this pending change in coding and payment, and enable you to extend the possibility of a covered Canaloplasty procedure to all patients who can benefit within your practice. If you have questions re: payment rates and coverage for specific insurance plans or CMS in your geography, I would encourage you to reach out to your local TRG contact for further clarification of this coding and payment rate change.
