Meet your cyber breach coach


Widely recognized as a leading cybersecurity expert, Imran Ahmad is a senior partner with Norton Rose Fulbright, as well as their Canadian head of the technology sector and Canadian co-head of information governance, privacy and cybersecurity.


As part of his cybersecurity practice, Imran works with clients to develop and implement strategies related to cyber threats. He advises on legal risk assessments, compliance, due diligence, security, and data breach incident preparedness and response.


Imran often acts as "breach counsel" in the event of a cybersecurity incident, and has extensive experience in managing complex cross-border security incidents.

Imran is the author of Canada's first legal incident preparation and response handbook, titled Cybersecurity in Canada: A Guide to Best Practices, Planning, and Management.

Social Engineering Fraud

Fraudsters continue to employ social engineering techniques to target lawyers and law firms in Alberta, enticed by the confidential client information stored in their computer systems and the frequent movement of money through their trust accounts.


ALIA has received many reports of both successful and attempted social engineering scams in the last several years.

Mistakes happen. Clients accuse their lawyers of mistakes, whether or not mistakes have been made. Lawyers are sued.
