FREE Maximizing Cost Relief: Understanding Premiums and Strategies for Success Virtual Oct 7, 2025, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Join Tom Kurian, Employer Advisor with the Advisor Office for Alberta Workers’ Compensation, for an informative session focused on the concept of cost relief within the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) system. This event is designed for employers and HR professionals who want to learn how claim costs impact future premiums and the circumstances under which costs may be removed from their accounts.

The ALIGN Community of Practice- Incident Investigation, July 15, 2025, 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on ZOOM. Our Community of Practice brings together professionals from the sector to share knowledge, tools, and strategies for improving the quality and consistency of incident investigations. 

 

Key practices in Incident Investigation include root cause analysis, human factors consideration, and cross-functional collaboration. Regular meetings, case study reviews, and best practice sharing are central to building a learning-focused, safety-oriented community. 


Join us on July 15th for a presentation from Chimo Homes on the focus of learning from past incidents, identifying systemic issues, and promoting a just culture that supports open reporting and continuous improvement. 


Your input is valuable as we aim to create a supportive environment for learning and sharing best practices. Well-Being Community of Practice (CoP) Join us July 11 and/or August 8, 2025, 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.


In these upcoming sessions, we will explore:

  • the significance of land acknowledgements as a foundational practice in reconciliation, particularly in the context of child intervention and services for Indigenous children and families. (July 11).
  • more deeply the notion of “Ethical Space” with guest speaker, Adrian Goulet (August 8)

Pension Plan Survey for Nonprofit Leaders - Perspectives from decision makers in the Sector

Volunteer Alberta is now gathering input from both nonprofit leaders and employees through two short surveys. Your participation—and that of your teams—will help determine the level of interest, potential models, and how a pension plan could best support our sector moving forward.

OCYA Youth Houselessness Surveys for People with Lived or Professional Experience OCYA is seeking feedback to better understand the causes of youth houselessness in Alberta, available services and supports, and what can be done to better support young people at risk of becoming unhoused. They are engaging with young people who have lived experience with houselessness. They also want to hear from natural supports (such as guardians, caregivers or family), adults (24+) who experienced houselessness, and service providers who work directly with unhoused young people. They will be collecting feedback through in-person interviews held across the province and online surveys. Deadline August 31, 2025. Natural Disaster Impacts on Children, Youth and Families and Emergency Preparedness & Response (ALIGN) Emergency preparedness for forest fires, heat waves, floods and tornados is critically important for human service agencies that serve children, youth, and families. These populations are especially vulnerable during disasters, and agencies must be equipped to protect their safety, ensure service continuity, and support long-term recovery. Reconciliation is recruitment: A strategic workforce solution (June 2025 Talent Canada) by Tanya Tourangeau, challenges organizations to shift from reactive to proactive hiring by creating welcoming environments—such as offering Indigenous-specific onboarding, culturally safe spaces, and bereavement leave for traditional practices.

Tourangeau frames these actions not as charity, but as deliberate workforce strategies essential for future competitiveness. She calls on HR leaders to engage meaningfully with Indigenous communities, and align recruitment with broader reconciliation commitments. Read Here

The Canadian Women’s Foundation launches their new free, virtual course: Who Cares? An ARAO Guide to Supporting Youth Mental Health. This curriculum addresses challenges faced by youth workers in supporting the mental health needs of Black, Indigenous, and 2SLGBTQIA+ youth. It provides strategies that youth workers can implement to ensure their own wellbeing is taken into account. Learn More

Responsible AI Adoption for Social Impact (RAISE) 

The Human Feedback Foundation (HFF), The Dais at Toronto Metropolitan University, and Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) are proud to jointly announce the launch of the Responsible AI Adoption for Social Impact (RAISE) pilot program, a first-of-its-kind national initiative to help nonprofit organizations across Canada adopt artificial intelligence (AI) responsibly and effectively. The CCCYT 2025 Symposium welcomed Dr. Bruce Perry and more than 2,000 decision-makers, researchers, students, and mental health professionals to learn, exchange and develop social practices and policies better adapted to the needs of young people who have experienced trauma. Mentor Canada is inviting passionate youth mentoring advocates to share their expertise at the 2025 Canadian Mentoring Summit, happening November 13-14, 2025, at the Sheraton Suites Eau Claire in Calgary, AB.
