Happy Thanksgiving to ALL of our Family
We've all been in a baseball game like 2020 before. It's early Saturday, so there's still a chill in the air. The morning inches along, but the sun won't come out. It's cold. The bleachers are wet from last night's rain, so there's nowhere to sit. It's a close game, but it's not particularly well-played, so it finds its way into extra innings.
It seems like it will never end, though of course we know it will. It's so stressful and uncomfortable that we might even start to question our love for the game or even the kids playing it... but of course we know we still love them both.
One year ago, on a day like yesterday, we invited anyone who needed to get out of the house (or who was told to get out of the house) to come out and hit some dingers on Thanksgiving Day. This year, many of us couldn't go see our families, so it's tough to say we should gather together any time soon on the diamond.
Even in tough times and hard games and deep slumps, there are little moments that keep us eager for the next chance to contribute to the team. I mean it when I say it's been the honor of a lifetime simply to try to be out there with you all, shouldering some of this difficult and unprecedented fight together.
We've masked up and spread out and sanitized and kept our distance when we want nothing more than a high five or handshake or hug or a team pile-on. Still...
...for every pitching debut, first home run, leaping catch, or walk-off hit, we are grateful to have been there with you. For every rainbow over right field, every sunset behind home plate, and every random fireworks display across the way, it's truly magical to share this season with you. From a distance.
In a year that's offered us ALL plenty to forget, thanks for giving us so much to remember. This game and this league are both here for you always!
