This presentation is one of the continuing third-Wednesday meetings of the Jane Addams Branch. These virtual meetings each month are now open to all WILPF members, nationwide – to help us connect and collaborate across the country!

We’ll feature special announcements, guest speakers, WILPF US leaders (board members, International reps, issue committee and ad hoc committee chairs, and branch chairs), and welcome comments and discussion with all attendees. The program each month will feature our guest speaker(s) and then WILPF US leaders, before everyone present is welcome to speak.

On February 21 hear guest speakers Ellen Siegel, Gloria McMillan, and Andre Shelton.

Ellen Siegel is a Jewish American nurse and activist in Israeli-Palestinian, Jewish, and Palestinian solidarity projects. She worked as a nurse in the Sabra refugee camp Beirut during the massacre at Sabra and Shatila and testified before the Kahan Commission (formally known as the Commission of Inquiry into the Events at the Refugee Camps in Beirut) in Jerusalem. She is on the Advisory board of ANERA (American Near East Refugee Aid) and a supporter of National Institution of Social Care in Lebanon.

Gloria McMillan has started WILPF US's newest committee: Communications, Culture, and Sensitization (CCS).

New WILPF CCS Committee and Jane Addams

Where No Woman Had Gone Before

CCS would like to show you new vistas in accepting artists, effective communications, and age-leaping sensitization, because our future in WILPF is with the young. The CCS Committee is about these exciting prospects.

Take a tip from Jane Addams! She crossed universes – flying boldly from one Chicago "island universe" culture to another. She left her Cedarville, Illinois, home port and flew into the Hull House, terra incognita. Talk about leaving a comfort zone and habitual, linear ways of thinking! (How could Jane behave so? Those awful slums! Tsk. Was she mad?)

Jane Addams and Hull House tried everything new and exciting in communications. Like today, they were up against media censorship – but they persisted. Jane Addams even hired a press person to make a media clipping scrapbook!

Andre Sheldon is the Director of Global Strategy of Nonviolence and a 22-year member of the WILPF Boston Branch. He’ll be presenting about an amazing opportunity here, now – for women to change the world: the global calls for a Ceasefire.

Male-driven wars are destroying the fabric of our civilization! How can women attain the political clout to reverse the direction of that current? Hear about an Emergency Peace Plan: “A Global Movement of Nonviolence".

All WILPF members are welcomes at these opened up Jane Addams Branch meetings.

Join us on February 21 and on the third Wednesday of each month at this same time: 5 pm PT / 6 pm MT / 7 pm CT/ 8 pm ET

Please register in advance using this link. After registering you’ll receive the Zoom link and other information on how to join the meeting.
