Hello Friends!
Please take a look at the ALL new DVC Newsletter!
As you can see we made some changes here. We are pleased to present a new look, a new mobile friendly format,  more information, and more ways to be involved.
!MARCH HAPPENINGS!
(So many new things happening in March! Took an extra month to get everything in the newsletter!!)
Headlining this month at The DVC...
Looks like Spring is here and with that we get busy with our community projects, community services and new programs. We want to spend a quick moment to say thank you for everything that has been done so far and tell everyone about the exciting new educational and informative programs coming soon...

We are starting with our new video series; 'DVC in 3'!

This new educational  video  will showcase the many diverse programs and opportunities offered by the DVC. Each three minute video will highlight a different service, course or benefit that is only available through the DVC of SCV. Starting with our first video:

The '40 Hour' Advocate Training Class from the DVC - What it is, why we do it and how does it benefit the community?

From there we move on to the following subjects:
  • Legal resources, VAP
  • Fairy Berry Breakfast
  • Gender Equality
  • Protecting Your Children
  • What are your options if you're worried or in danger.
  • Shelter - What to expect when going to Shelter.
  • Purple Walk  -  October (DV Awareness Month)

Keep watching our social network channels. We will keep you posted with the progress and where the videos can be located.

Thank you!!
Tree of Second Chances
Business Development Award
One of our continuous supporters, Jen Gerard, owner of Gerard Cosmetics and Whitening Lightening, has once again partnered with the  Domestic Violence
Linda Davies, Jen Gerard and Oriana John
Center of SCV to now offer a $10,000 legacy award every year to a new program entitled 'The Tree of Second Chances'. Gerard knows first-hand the effects domestic violence can have on a woman and how hard it can be to get back on your feet. She wants to help women in this same situation by giving them a second chance and help them achieve the American Dream. Through the program, Gerard will provide guidance and marketing support and also mentor the recipient through the launch of their very own business.

"I feel we all need to have the confidence to reach for the stars, especially when we find ourselves starting over" said Gerard.

Interested applicants should contact info@dvc-scv.org or reach out to the agency at (661) 259-8175.
40 HOUR TRAINING*
Welcome New Advocates!
We'd like to put out a heartfelt thank you to the 19 volunteers and DVC trainers who spent their weekends with us learning about the domestic violence awareness program. Now with their 40 hour training these advocates can now assist us in our 30 day shelter and help with victims of DV, here and everywhere.

The curriculum included topics regarding safety, cultural, awareness, legal, impact, resources and confidentiality. Along with special guest speakers talking about law and public safety it was a very informative 40 hour course.

From a new advocate:
(end result) ...That advocacy is a choice to help in a specific area of DV. It is not counseling or therapy, there are professionals for that. It is a way to help a DV victim navigate the choices she/he makes to end a violent situation.

Very informative speakers this year included:
Al Lustgarten; Attorney - Law Offices of Al Lustgarten
Victoria Lambrecht; SCV Detective - LA County Sheriff's Department
(*In accordance with California Evidence Code Section §1037.1(b) and California Penal Code  §13823.15-13823.16 (respectively), for the purpose of ensuring those working with victims meet  the requirements of a Domestic Violence Counselor pursuant to Evidence Code §1037.1(a)(1))
COMFORT KIT DONATIONS
Thank you Kristen!
We were honored to be on the receiving end of a very kind gesture from local Thirty-One gifts consultant Kristen Olson. To date this project was able to bring in 60+ comfort kits to our 30 day shelter.
-----
Hi everyone! My name is Kristen and I am an Independent Consultant with Thirty-One Gifts. I am hoping to donate 80 comfort kits to the Domestic Violence Shelter of Santa Clarita Valley next month. Join me in supporting the DVS with a Comfort Kit Drive!
What is a Comfort Kit?
A Comfort Kit is a Thirty-One Zipper Pouch filled with toiletries and small amenities that will given to the women, men, and children seeking emergency safe refuge at the Domestic Violence Shelter. These kits will hopefully provide a little bit of hope and temporary relief to these individuals upon arrival to the shelter.

HERE IS THE COMFORT KIT!
