MILTON'S 2023 VALEDICTORIAN

Class of 2023 Valedictorian: Isabella Szabo

Isabella attended the Georgia Governor's Honors Program as a finalist in Spanish and she has taken an Advanced Spanish Composition course at the University of Arizona. She is a Coach and Captain of the Milton Science Olympiad Team and medaled at both Regional and State-Level Competitions. She is a four-year member of the Milton Beta Club, currently serving as President, and helped organize Beta's Used Prep-Book Drive for the past two years. She is an active member of the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, and Spanish National Honor Society at Milton. Isabella has been named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist and is a recipient of the Georgia Seal of Biliteracy.

In addition to academics, Isabella has played the Viola for seven years and is a member of the Milton Chamber Orchestra. She currently interns at DMD Engineering and Testing Inc. and is a remote intern with Solutionz Inc.'s Grants Department, where she helps with outreach campaigns that raise awareness about distance learning and telemedicine grants in rural communities. She is Undecided as far as which college she wants to attend, but her goal is to double major in Chemistry and Spanish, then use that degree to conduct research in sustainable Chemistry.

MILTON'S 2023 SALUTATORIAN

Class of 2023 Salutatorian: Rebecca Yu

At Milton, Rebecca is a team Captain and Coach of the Science Olympiad Team. Competing since freshman year, she has garnered over 20 medals in various subjects at the Invitational, Regional, and State-Level. Additionally, she is the Vice President of Milton Beta Club and Milton Hack Club. She took part in the Fulton County Student Technology Competition, becoming a Georgia state qualifier for her top performance in both Internet Applications and Programming Challenge. Rebecca actively participates in the competitive Math Team, National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society. She has received recognitions as a Milton Class of 2023 PAGE STAR Student, a U.S. Presidential Scholars Nominee, a Georgia Tech Stamps Scholarship Semifinalist, and a National Merit Finalist.

Rebecca played violin in the Milton High School Sinfonia Orchestra and is also a pianist outside of school. Additionally, as a visual artist, she has won a Regional Honorable Mention and a National Silver Medal in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for her artworks.

Rebecca is Undecided as far as college selection, but she is particularly interested in harnessing the power of computing to advance research in biology and medicine. She currently works as a student researcher in a quantitative genomics lab at Emory University, where she is developing an ML-based web tool for analyzing gene expression data to better predict human diseases. She was also selected to attend the Georgia Tech AI4ALL summer program, where she delivered a poster presentation on evaluating gender- and genre-based bias in movie dialogue. She hopes to one day make breakthroughs in science and technology that can positively impact the world.
