MAP TESTING THIS THURSDAY

On Thursday, September 22, we will be following an adjusted schedule with an extended advisement. Students will need to bring their computer to their advisement class on Thursday, September 22:.

PERIOD

TIME

Your child will take a MAP Growth test from NWEA (Reading) on a computer or tablet during their advisement class. MAP Growth scores help teachers check student performance by measuring achievement and growth. Teachers can use results to tailor classroom lessons and set goals for students.

MAP Growth tests are unique, and it adapts to your child’s responses to measure your child’s skill level. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. These results will provide a more complete picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn—whether it is on, above, or below their grade level.

Since MAP Growth tests provide immediate and accurate information about your child’s learning, it’s easy for teachers to identify students with similar scores that are generally ready for instruction in similar skills and topics, and then plan instruction accordingly.

MAP Growth reports also provide typical growth data for students who are in the same grade, subject and have the same starting performance level.

Please encourage your student to do their best on each of these assessments. The staff at Milton will need the data from the assessment to be as accurate as possible.

We are truly excited to focus on your child’s individual growth and achievement. For more information about MAP Growth, visit NWEA.org/familytoolkit. This website is a valuable resource and videos are available that will help you to understand what the MAP Growth test is and how it can be used to help your student.

SUICIDE AWARENESS MONTH

September is Suicide Awareness and Prevention Month

As part of the initiative to spread awareness and prevention during the month of September, Fulton County Schools require that all 9th grade students participate in a Signs of Suicide lesson, presented by the Milton Counselors. This presentation will take place in all 9th Grade English classrooms on Monday, September 26.

Suicide is a difficult topic, and we understand this can evoke a strong emotional response from certain students. In an effort to be mindful of the individual needs of our students, there is an opt-out process. If you WOULD NOT like your student to receive this lesson, complete the link here:

www.bit.ly/SOSoptout22

Counselors will also have hard copies of the opt-out form available in Suites 1340/1360 for pickup the week of September 19-23. We ask that all parents who opt-out complete the process by Sunday, September 25 to ensure we have an accurate list of students participating. Please direct any additional questions or concerns to your student's assigned counselor. Thank you!

REDISTRICTING MEETINGS

Residents of Fulton County are assigned to a school attendance zone based on their residential address. When new schools or additional classroom capacity are added in a region, or imbalances of enrollment and capacity exist, the Board may direct staff to review attendance boundaries for modifications. This process of revising attendance boundaries is called redistricting.

Each time a redistricting effort is under way, the school system holds three rounds of meetings to gather information needed to draft a redistricting proposal that best meets the community's needs. Unlike other school systems, Fulton uses a process that encourages public discussion before developing a proposal. This allows the community to have maximum input in how the proposed attendance lines are created.

There are TWO MORE meetings scheduled for North Fulton:

Round Two

October 3, 2022 (6:00 to 8:00 P.M.) at Alpharetta High School

Round Three

October 18, 2022 (6:00 to 8:00 P.M.) at Alpharetta High School

Final Recommendations; First Read - November 8

Final Action: December 15
