(WASHINGTON, DC – October 10, 2018) – The Airport Minority Advisory Council (AMAC) Foundation received $50,000 from AMAC member, AECOM, to fund the AECOM FLY (Future Led by Youth) Endowment at AMAC’s 34th Annual Airport Business Diversity Conference: Inspiring Possibilities. AECOM FLY will provide scholarship(s) to students who demonstrate intent to pursue a career in the aviation field while enrolled in one of the following accredited university disciplines: aviation planning; engineering; architecture and construction.
“I’m proud of AECOM and the commitment of our executive leaders to offer a sustainable mechanism that offers scholarship assistance to worthy students,” said Frank Wengler, global aviation lead for AECOM in its Americas operations. “It’s exciting to be a member of the AMAC Foundation Board and find creative ways to deliver funding that ensures a strong future pipeline of aviation industry leaders. We hope this idea catches on with more AMAC organizations and increases the financial assistance the AECOM FLY Fund can offer.”
AECOM FLY will provide funding to one or more students who will be selected based on the selection and approval process implemented by the AMAC Foundation with final approval of each scholarship by AECOM. The funding will be provided by proceeds of the AECOM endowment and will be maintained and operated by the AMAC Foundation Board. The yearly scholarship amount will be $2,500 or as otherwise approved by AECOM.
“The AMAC Foundation has awarded over $350,000 in scholarships since its inception in 1997. Although we are proud of our efforts to date, the AMAC Foundation Board is consistently looking for creative ways to provide funding for our next generation of Aviation professionals. AECOM’s pledge of $50,000 to an endowment is exactly the kind of forward thinking that we need to ensure a more sustainable approach to our mission. I’m hopeful that other firms and organization will follow AECOM’s lead,” said Heather Barry, AMAC Foundation Board Chair.
