COVID-19 Exploration Fieldwork Safety Guidelines

This guide, developed by SGDS Hive , provides Health and Safety Guidelines for employers and employees undertaking Exploration Fieldwork. It was compiled using several sources including WorkSafeBC, BC Centre for Disease Control and the Provincial Government. Information is up-to-date as of April 15, 2020. Check it out .
Ministry COVID-19 updates

The Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources is engaging with Indigenous Nations to explore the potential extension of NOW expiry dates for authorizations expiring prior to end of December, 2021 . Members are encouraged to contact regional mine offices for further details. Read more .
Post-Secondary Student and Youth Government Support

Youth and Student COVID-19 related assistance announcements were made by the government on April 22, 2020. The new programs will provide further financial assistance and summer job opportunities. Please see the full summary with useful links.

The Annual Canadian Mineral Exploration Environment, Health & Safety Survey is Live and New Portal

AME and PDAC have collaborated with the Canadian Diamond Drilling Association on a new portal at www.explorationsurvey.ca to provide these associations with data to their guides, tools and programs and to provide junior explorers and their contractors with forms and information they can use for their own programs. Features of the new portal are:

  • A choice of uploading incident reports as in recent years, or filling out the incident report online
  • One-time registration to keep an ongoing of surveys filled out starting with the survey reporting on 2019
  • Other features to be rolled out over the coming months including opportunities more regular reporting and real-time data viewing

BC Mine Audits and Effectiveness Unit (The Audit Unit) is seeking your feedback
The Audit Unit - an independent team in the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources (the Ministry) is in the process of picking its next audit topics. AME is compiling ideas from our members and will be able to submit two priority topics for the Audit Unit’s consideration by May 8, 2020 . BC Human Rights Commissioner's Statement on COVID-19
On March 25, 2020, BC’s Human Rights Commissioner Kasari Govender released a statement and FAQ for employers, service providers and landlords to assist with questions that they or their staff, clients or tenants might have in relation to human rights issues during COVID-19. The survey is open until April 30. Read more.
Steps for Life Vancouver 2020
Threads of Life  - a charity dedicated to supporting families who have suffered from a workplace fatality, life-altering illness or occupational disease will now hold their Steps for Life Vancouver 2020 Walk virtually by way of a social media event all weekend from  Friday, May 1 to Sunday, May 3, 2020. You can participate by walk, outdoor activity (when safe to do so) or indoor activity and post your photo or video content with the hashtag # MyWhyMyWay.
