AMHSA Collaboration Efforts
As we shared in our winter newsletter, AMHSA is a member of the Conference Board of Canada. There are some upcoming items that may be of interest to you:

  • Participation in Health & Safety Surveys. This will also provide you access to produced research reports. Click here for published evidence-based and timely reports on key health and health care systems issues.

  • Keeping Youth and Vulnerable Workers Safe in the New Economy webinar is being offered on Thursday, March 5 at 2 pm (EST). To register for this FREE webinar, click here.
  • Workplace Mental Health Workshop. These workshops are designed to guide you through developing an action plan to being able to measure and communicate the impacts of the plan to your senior or executive leadership teams. The workshops are being offered in five locations:
  • March 11 - Edmonton
  • April 22 - Toronto
  • May 1 - Vancouver
  • May 11 - Whitehorse
  • May 27 - Montreal

  • In conjunction with the Workplace Mental Health Workshop, the Conference Board's Health and Safety Leadership Centre (HSLC) will be leading a health and safety metrics study to better understand how organizations evaluate OHS performance so that benchmarks can be made within and across different sectors and jurisdictions. AMHSA member organizations will have an opportunity to participate in this research.

Toolbox Talks

Did you know that the SafeTapp app on your AMHSA ID card allows you to:

Alberta OHS Online Incident Reporting
Service Update
On Friday, February 14, we sent out an update to announce that Alberta OHS recently changed the online reporting of potentially serious incidents (PSIs).

Alberta OHS has since provided with a webinar link entitled "Reporting and Investigating a Potentially Serious Incident" that will help to increase your understanding of PSIs.

Instructors!
In every newsletter, we will highlight a few of our training instructors.

This month, we introduce you to Doreen Von Gradulewski!

Doreen believes and values that sharing knowledge and expertise builds a stronger foundation for continual improvements and supports workers in their abilities to achieve competency.

Doreen holds her Canadian Registered Safety Professional, (CRSP), Certified Health and Safety Management System Auditor, (CHSMSA), and Certified Health and Safety Consultant, (CHSC), designations. Doreen is passionate about life-long learning and sharing her knowledge and experience to others. Teaching and course development that focuses on the organization’s needs is an area at which she excels.

Doreen’s work experience includes the municipal sector for large and smaller municipalities, oil & gas, housing, transportation trucking and banking. Doreen is working now as a full-time consultant, trainer and auditor.

Areas of experience and interest for Doreen are:

  • Developing and teaching train-the-train programs, such as hazardous material identification and control processes, inspections and effective meetings;
  • Auditing health and safety programs and management systems, developing action plans that identify the areas of improvement and are practical to the organization;
  • Assisting organizations with the development of their health and safety management systems and internal evaluation frameworks that align with risk management strategies and business goals and objectives; and
  • Coaching management and senior management, joint work site health and safety representatives and front line supervisors to align with the organization’s risk reduction strategies and business goals.

We also want to introduce you to Robert Montgomery!

Bob has had the privilege of consulting with clientele from Alabama to Nunavut since 1995. His diverse experience has helped him earn a reputation for providing practical solutions.

He currently serves as the Director of Education for CSSE, as an adjunct Professor in the University of Fredericton EMBA program and most recently, as an Instructor in the Department of Continuing Education at the University of Calgary.

He is currently writing on ‘Communication within Canadian Health & Safety’ and is regularly sought out to draft OHS-related curriculum. As time permits, he accepts speaking engagements from across the country.
