AMS-SMT 2023: Denver, Colorado
The AMS is pleased to announce that its 2023 Annual Meeting will be held in Denver, Colorado at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel , 9-13 November 2023. The meeting will be held jointly with the Society of Music Theory (SMT). Save the date!

Subvention Applications Due: 18 Feb 2020
The next round of AMS publication subvention applications are due 18 February 2020 . Applications may be submitted by publishers or authors, and are intended to cover publication expenses for books, essay collections, journal issues, and other works of scholarship. Learn more...
Suggest Honorary / Corresponding Member
The AMS Council invites nominations for honorary and corresponding members. If you would like to nominate someone, please forward their name and a short rationale to Stephen Conrad Meyer by 1 February. For more info, see the AMS Administrative Handbook .

Palisca Nominations Due 31 Jan 2020

Nominations for the Claude V. Palisca Award are due 31 January 2020. The Palisca Award honors a scholarly edition or translation i n the field of musicology published during the previous year by a scholar who is a member of the AMS or a citizen or permanent resident of Canada or the United States.
Joint Memberships End

As part of the recent change in membership dues rates (7 Jan 2020), and because of the availability of electronic journal access, the AMS no longer offers joint memberships. If you currently hold a joint membership, please renew at the appropriate individual member dues rate.
Council Nominations Due: 15 Feb 2020

T he Council Nominating Committee is seeking nominations of members to stand for election to the AMS Council. According to the AMS By-Laws, Council members “shall be scholars who have made notable contributions to the stated object of the Society.” To nominate a candidate, email committee chair Marie Sumner Lott by 15 February 2020, and include a short note about the person's notable contributions. In Memoriam
It is with great sadness that we report the death of David Lamont Burrows on 9 June 2019. Emeritus Professor of Musicology at NYU, Burrows was born in 1930 to noted ethnomusicologist father, Edwin G. Burrows (1891-1958).
Gary Craig Thomas died peacefully in his sleep on August 29, 2019. Thomas spent his career at the University of Minnesota, and was at the national forefront of research on cultural studies, LGBT studies, and the history and theory of comedy.
Rita Katherine Steblin, born 22 April 1951 in Chilliwack, British Columbia, passed away on 3 September 2019. She received her PhD in musicology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and was a noted scholar of Schubert and Beethoven.
Richard Wexler passed away on Friday, 6 September 2019. Having completed a dissertation on Johannes Prioris at NYU in 1974, Wexler made distinguished scholarly contributions on the work of Jean Ockegem and Antoine Bruhier.
