K-12 Educator Grants in American Music:

Applications Due 1 April

The AMS is calling for applications for its new K-12 Educators Grants in American Music. This program provides grants of $500 to educators working with K-12 students and have a special interest in American music. The grants support attendance at the Society's 2024 Teaching Music History Conference, which is organized by the Pedagogy Study Group. This year's Teaching Music History Conference will be held at Columbus State University, 7-9 June 20214. Grantees will also receive free registration. Apply now!

Travel & Research Grant Applications Due 1 April

The AMS is calling for applications for this year's travel and research grants! The common application form for eight (8) AMS travel and research grants is now open. The Janet Levy Fund is also accepting applications via a separate form. The application deadline for all AMS travel and research grants is 1 April 2024, 11:59pm ET. Learn more...

Sustainable Mentorship Applications Due 30 May

The Sustainable Mentorship Program (SMP) is calling for applications for 2024–2025. The SMP provides robust, year-long mentoring to individuals with graduate training in musicology or a related field. Eileen Southern Travel Grant Applications

Due 31 May

The Society's Eileen Southern Travel Fund (ESTF) provides travel grants to the AMS annual meeting as well as cohort and networking activities for minority undergraduates and terminal master's candidates interested in exploring careers in musicology. In addition, the ESTF program provides ongoing mentorship opportunities to help Eileen Southern Scholars to apply to graduate school or otherwise advance their careers. Applications due 31 May 2024, 11:59pm ET.

Pre-Conference? Apply Now!

Organizations and affiliates interested in holding pre-conference events as part of the 2024 AMS Annual Meeting in Chicago may now submit a reservation request. Pre-conference event space is granted on a first-come, first-served basis, as space allows.

The AMS is calling for volunteers to serve as session chairs and discussants at the 2024 annual meeting to be held this fall in Chicago, IL. AMS members may volunteer by 3 May 2024, 11:59pm ET. (Must be logged in to access the volunteer form.)

Many Musics of America:

From Veracruz to Virginia

From Veracruz to Virginia will be held in Floyd, Virginia at the Floyd Country Store and live-streamed on Wednesday, 10 April 2024 at 7:00pm ET. Part of the Many Musics of America Series, it will feature Sophia Enríquez, Estela Díaz Knott, and Fredi Naranjos Vega and explore how Mexican music has taken root in Appalachia.

Spotlight on New Research: Ibero-American Music

Ibero American Music Readings: A Discussion of Recent Publications, featuring Marysol Quevedo and Belén Vega Pichaco, will be held online on 17 April 2024 at 5:00pm ET. This event will delve into the exploration of musical modernism in Cuba in the long 20th century. Register now!

Teaching Music History Conference

Register for the 2024 Teaching Music History Conference, to be held 7-9 June 2024 at Columbus State University. The conference, which is organized by the AMS Pedagogy Study Group, will feature a special workshop, “Teaching the Blues through Ma Rainey.”

The AMS is calling for nominations for awards to be announced in fall 2024. The Society is soliciting nominations for the Early Music Award, Cohen/RIPM Award, Einstein Award, R. Jackson Award, Kinkeldey Award, Lockwood Award, Music in American Culture Award, Slim Award, Solie Award, Stevenson Award, AMS Teaching Award, Tsou Critical Race Studies Award and the Brett Award. 2023 Paul A. Pisk Prize Awarded

The AMS is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2023 Paul A. Pisk Prize. The Pisk Prize is awarded annually to a graduate music student for a scholarly paper presented at the Annual Meeting of the Society. This year's recipient is Alyssa Cottle. Congratulations!
