Ozarks Today: A Preview of the Smithsonian Folklife Festival 2023 | |
On 29 April 2023 the AMS Southwest Chapter will host a special concert and the final Many Musics event of the season. Presented as a local tie-in event previewing Ozarks: Faces and Facets of a Region, a featured program at this summer’s Smithsonian Folklife Festival, this concert features artists from Northwest Arkansas who are performing at the Folklife Festival and celebrates the communities being represented in Washington, D.C. Alex Bádue to Lecture on Rent at the Library of Congress
Alex Bádue will deliver a lecture titled, "How Do You Measure a Year?: Jonathan Larson and the Creation of the Musical Rent, 1995–1996" as part of the AMS/Library of Congress Lecture Series. The lecture will be held on 24 May 2023.

Teaching Music History Conference Starts June 19
The 2023 Teaching Music History Conference, organized by the Society's Pedagogy Study Group, will be held online this June. Sessions will be held over two weeks (June 19–23 and 26–30), scheduled in the afternoon, and last approximately 75 minutes per day.

Reimagining the Music Theory Curriculum at NYU
The 2023 NYU-AMS Lecture, “Reimagining the Music Theory Curriculum: A Cross-School Collaboration Towards Anti-Racism, Decolonization, and Globalization at NYU” will be held in Kimball Hall at NYU on Monday, 1 May 2023 from 3:00-5:00pm ET. Attendance limited to members of the NYU community.

Workshops for AMS Council Members Launched
The AMS will now hold three informational workshops each year to increase transparency and educate AMS Council members about the Society's operations. The first workshop on AMS Finances will be held on 5 May 2023 at 3 PM EST online. By invitation only.

Board and Council Election Ballot Opens
The American Musicological Society is pleased to announce the nominees for the 2023 AMS Board and Council elections. Balloting for Board and Council elections is now open to AMS members and will close 11:59pm ET, 30 May 2023. All current AMS members are urged to register their votes by 30 May. The winners of this year's Board and Council elections will begin their terms in November 2023 and August 2023, respectively.
